2003 Seat

I hope this isn't a totally stupid question, but all other attempts to find an answer have failed. I have a 2003 SV1000/S with a nasty tear in the seat. I ordered a replacement seat that was off the same model...I even have pictures of the bike...but the seat doesnt fit. The plastic brackets are too short to secure the seat to the bike with the screws. I took the seat off a buddy's 2005 SV650 and they are too short as well. Were there 2 models or frames for the 2003 SK3 or something? Thanks for any help here, gotta fix my baby.

You are correct in that the 2003 SV1000s seat was different from all the other models, because it has a different subframe from all the other models.

Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news but you have to get a seat specifically for the 03 s model. You could of course have the original recovered or even do it yourself. Just need a bit of suitable vinyl and and a staple gun.

No stupid questions here my friend. Bioboy is spot on correct. You need a 2003 SV1000S seat as a replacement. You can get ready made seat covers for our bike on ebay for a few dollars. They'll even look a little unique if you like. How about just taking the cover off the one you bought and throwing it on your original seat? Start stapling at the front and keep it pulled taught as you move to the rear stapling as you go on both sides.

Well, here's the deal. The foam padding is damaged. I've got 50,000 miles on the bike and unfortunately I didnt address the problem until it became more than a cover issue. Also, I've been in 2 deer accidents with the bike and on one of the accidents I shattered 1 thumb and tore a tendon on another, so I tend to avoid maintenance that requires a lot of grip stength or dexterity, lol.

Here was the add description that was on the ebay seat I bought:

"SUZUKI SV1000 OEM SEAT - Removed from a "2003" SV1000 S, does have mounting bolts included for this model. Also, is listed as compatible with SV650 S. Seat is in very good condition due to removal from bike within first month of ownership. See other Ebay listing for additional parts for this model."

The seat is in great shape, but unless there are 2 models of 2003 out there, I dont see how it could be off of an 03. Its exactly like my buddies SV650 which means that seat had to be off a 2004 or higher.

The 2003 seats do not fit any of the the 650s only the 2004 on ones.

Thanks again, I contacted the seller. We'll see what turns up. Grrrrr, how frustrating.

To be clear....
The K3"S" model is a bastard. The K3"N" model, and all other year models have the same subframe, seat, tank, etc...

If you see a seat listed by an aftermarket seller as a K3, odds are that it is a K3S seat. Their K4+ seats will fit a K3N.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but wondering if the 2003 sv650n/s (which had the higher steel subframe) is the same as the 2003 sv1000s? I thought they are the same, but is the 2k3 sv1000s a third shape/option, or can we say that 2003 sv650n/s and sv1000s are the "different" ones?

Thanks,
George

Thanks Junkie. I found a 2003 sv1000s gel seat used, I just picked up Ralph's (from here) 2003 sv1000n and also have a 2003 sv650n, thus I believe i have one of each of the seat configurations. I would like the put this seat on the sv1k, but guess worst case it will fit the 650 (that still has a stock seat). I have pics of the seat top and bottom from the seller, and comparing to ebay seats and such appears to be the 2003 odd ball style, although seems some people are stating the seat will fit others. Asking for a pic of the part number tag now so i can do a look up that way before riding a couple hours to pick this thing up, guess at $60 it's worth it either way. Looking up stuff on partszilla is showing mixed results as you saw as well... Wish this was more straight forward.... oh well.

2003 Seat

Yes, 03 SV650 and 03 SV650S use the same seat as the 03 SV1000S

The 03 SV1000S subframe is different than the 03 650 only because of the second exhaust hanger I believe.

I bet you are using Partzilla for this? The way they cross reference gets messed up because of the way Suzuki has grouped the SV parts. Note how if you select a 2005 bike it list parts for the 03? Well when it checks, it sees the part numbers for the 03 in the 05 listings so it thinks they are used as n the same bike.

Thanks guys really appreciate it. Guess this seat is probably the 03 only special seat, he said it came off of a fully faired 03 sv1000. Still debating if it's worth a two hour ride up and back... May as well for the 650 even though the stock seat has been okay for the most part... Strange thing is i see some seat on ebay posted at 04+ seats that have the same base plate pattern.. Attached two pics sent from the seller.

That sure looks like the 03 SV650/S and 03 SV1000S seat. It is a Suzuki accessories gel seat by the way.

It does not have the the little rubber bumper near the front line the later seats had I believe.

Thanks again, since these gel seats are definitely out of production and will be harder and harder to find, I'll run up and grab it for the 03 650n - appreciate all the help everyone!
