View Full Version : Nightmare

Hi all yesterday my worst nightmare came true, i suspect the clutch knocking finally became terminal!!!!!
i was in top gear at 5000 rpm when the bike started to try to vibrate itself to bits it also felt like the engine was about to seize, not a good feeling for a bike that is 4 weeks old!!!!!!
with the clutch in the engine revs smoothly also the temperature is ok, but when you pull away the bike starts to vibrate at 3000 rpm it is so bad that it makes your hands go numb after a while and it really does not want to rev over 6000rpm in gear

The very bad news is the dealers are so busy at the moment i cannot get the bike looked at for nearly 3 weeks i!!!!!

as i am no mechanic i am only suspecting it is the clutch basket but as usual i am open to suggestions???.

I am going to get jorge from Renegade try to find out what is going on,jorge suggested checking the throttle body sync .i guess things will be a little more clear tuesday.

This has really pissed me off as i am now off the road, if i carry on riding it i may end up in a ditch!!!!

This truely does SUCK!
I used to blow up my clutch baskets on my RZ 350....Used to break the friction plates too...
If this vibration is inhibiting RPMs this is a BAD thing!
I hope Suzi didn't skimp on anything to get these models out on time...
The basket always spins, clutch engaged or disengaged...But release the clutch, it puts all that extra mass into rotation.

If you are in neutral with clutch released, does it vibrate too?
Get better with clutch engaged, and put in gear?

Sounds like the bushing is toast! And maybe out of balance clutchplates and steels...

See my posting -

I have had my SV for 4 weeks now. After the first service noticed knocking, faint but there. Took to dealer, told me that's how they are. Got worse, searched the net and found nothing, looked at V-Strom (DL1000), same engine, and found lots of miffed owners posting to the WWW.

Apparently a clutch replacement under warrenty. Booked in again at dealer, contacted Suzuki, they contacted dealer who called them when bike was in for checkup. Consequence - bike goes back for a warrenty fix which will take 4 days...!! Moral, get onto Suzuki direct and get them to talk to dealer, then no oh there all like that, well actually sounds like quite a few are.

So if you have a knocking, according to Suzuki it will not damage the engine but they are monitoring this issue. Have a dedicated resourse at their customer service on UK 0500 011959, give them a call.

Apart from the annoying knocking this bike is great...

I get the impression there may be a recall....

ADDITION - just got bike back, it has had new main bearings and some modified parts from Suzuki fitted, waiting for full report to see what the modified bits are. Took them longer than expected as engine needed strip down. Looks to be more than the clutch issues their talking about.

Went for short test ride covered about 4 miles, bang! Speed sensor bolt came loose and smashed engine casing, so back to the dealer it goes. Had it for 5 hours before went wrong again. I'll keep you posted......

like most people here, ive had the knock from about 300miles until now ((1500miles)). Mine has not gotten any better or worse, and does indeed seem to be the clutch. ive experienced no problems at all, aside from my friend with a gixxer750 telling me my bike always sounds like its going to explode

this is the first bike ive ever owned, and ridden, and i freakin love it. i let a friend with a bandit 1200 ride it, he loved it. i let my friend with the gixxer750 ride it, he loved it too. everyone loves it, but most of all me :)

anyways, back to the point. i believe that the knock truly is "how its supposed to be". i also think that some bikes have the same knock but more terminal to the bike, something slightly off thats causing their bikes to kill themselves

Hey Matt, where are you in FL?

I have 1800 miles on my naked and it has a grumbling noise at idle in neutral but no knock. Runs great and everyone that has ridden it, loves it!

JRL... do you think the riding position on your bike is more on the racer side or standard side? I read two different reviews saying its quite agressive for a standard type of bike. However I heard switching handle bars is very easy on these bikes. I wanna love this bike too but I want the riding position to be compy

I find the reach to the bars about a half inch longer than my naked 650 but I wouldn't use the term aggressive. Remember, from the front of the tank back, this thing is like a sport bike. The only two things that I can think of that would not put this bike in the "standard" class would be the position of the pegs, (a little high and back) and the lack of a full seat. Once you're planted, that's where you're staying. As for changing the bars, I took a long look at putting my 650 bars on the 1000 and I'm not quite sure there is enough slack in the wiring and hoses.
I'm getting used to the stock position and it's actually quite comfortable at speed. I've done a couple of 200 and 300 mile days and no problems here.

I find the riding position very uncomfortable for a standard. I got on my friends BMW R1100S and it's way more situp and comfortable, same for another friends Yam. FZ1. I came off an SV650, figured this is bigger, have more room, just the opposite. Footpegs too high, bars too low, this a standard for Christ's sake, what the hell were they thinking! And the seat, somebody should be taken out and publicly flogged...every time I get off this thing, I hurt.

Hmmm... seems like the bike isn't too compy after all. I have to go down to the dealers to have a sit. Do you regret buying the bike?

So what is the deal??? Is this knock/rattle going to go bad for all of us? I can feel the rattle slightly in my left bar. Do you think I should have it looked at???

Depends what you have come off. My last few bikes have included a TLR, a Harley Softail Deuce, a Suzuki GSXR1000 and a classic Kawasaki Mach III. The SV1000N is the most comfortable by a considerable margin. Of the others, I found the TLR the most comfortable. But I have decided that I don't want to travel a 200kph all the time any more, that's why I have gone naked.

Geoff T (and others with the clutch basket problem) - how many miles has the bike covered?
