Hello every1

I'm purchasing a new SV1000s this week (orange) but I'm worried about the posts I've seen with the clutch basket problems.

Any insite would be great before I make a mistake :(

I haven't cancelled mine for 2 reasons:

1. Suzuki must have made hundreds of thousands of these engines over the last few years, if there IS a problem it surely must be a batch with a manufacturing/assembly problem rather than a design fault.

2. Warranty.

i would agree. i havent cancelled mine mainly because of the warranty. the additional four years was purchased for under five hundred bucks... not too shabby

I wouldn't call it a problem. It just makes a little noise. It wouldn't be the first new bike that had a clutch rattle.

As long as is doesn't fall apart or give trouble I think it gives the bike some character. Mine has started rattle a bit but to loudly and is still working fine so on we go until Suzuki does something about it.

Rattle is very quiet in relation to other Ducati's I have owned but they have been dry clutches..... All the same no problem with the clutch operation - just the fluid turning black in the master cylinder. I feel covered by the Suzuki warranty.

Hey,

Just read what all the moto journalists have to say about that "intoxicating" rythm of the Ducs dry clutch sytem, "music to their ears".... But if we listened always to the journalists we would trade every month, or never buy anything...

I agree, it adds character. As long as it works, and isn't damaging anything, whats the deal. I once had dealer tell me to "stop listening for noises and RIDE !" I think what he meant was not to look for problems if they weren't really there.
Good advice. We all want our rides perfect, but don't let striving for perfection get in the way of what we're really after, having a blast....

Mine (Copper, quite lovely), has the described rattle, but I had to listen to make sure. I only noticed it after reading about it on this site. I really don't think about it too much. It certainly doesn't seem to slow it down any!
