There have been some threads in the SV1000 section regarding the choice between the 650 and 1000cc versions of our beloved bike. To ease the pain and make a more informed decision here is a review (taken from RIDE magazine Issue 99 - Great Mag, go out and buy it). :niceone:

Are you after a free subscription or something Brian??
I agree with you about the magazine - get this and BIKE regularly and PB when I can.

Nice that the bike is stereo-typed as a girls bike so they get a girl to ride it.

If you read the aritcle she was riding a ZZ-R1200 before this bike - now that is no stereo-type bike. If you also read the article you will see that she is pushing the bike quite hard and exploring its limits. Again, most SV650 riders will probably not go that far.
Still, at least she seems to be enjoying the bike and I thought it presented a balanced view of our smaller relative.

That was the most worthless article I've ever read. Boring, illiterate, and lame. But you do get a few of these for the effort Brian:

Check her "squid lines" along the edge of the tire (front and rear). Looks to me likes she HAS been exploring the limits of the 650s. :niceone:

No doubt... the 160 tyre is a pain in the arse to roll over onto that last edge of 'squid line'... I've managed to drag both pegs, and both -foot levers- on mine and not get rid of the back one entirely. The pogo-stick front end, on the other fist, wears allllll the way over, tee hee.... need to sharpen up that front end some more. I can't even begin to get the last 1/4 inch of fresh rubber of the SV1000's front tire.
Cheers

The SV650 is a fine bike. Just doesn't have the smack like the 1000. Millions of track day riders can't be wrong.

I have to agree...
I'm 6'4 and LOVED my old shape 650 until I put it under the number 96 in Wilesden....

I can keep up with sv1k on my wifes 03 sv650, or I can smoke other sv1ks on my naked sv1k:)
Something about that little 160 tire that makes it turn tighter...even though it looks like less traction It is really a good match for the engines output...plus has a better profile for cornering that you can really feel. Plus the 650 has some really good gearing which helps it against it's bigger brother.

I wish I can take a 1000S for a test run, just to see if it's THAT much different than my 650S.

I test rode my 1K before I bought it. Your dealer doesn't have a demo model?

I am not sure if they have demo bikes. There are quite a few dealers in Toronto. I got my SV 650S from a Suzuki dealership, they never mentioned a test ride.
