View Full Version : DVD codes?

I'm sending a member in Canada some DVD's from the UK, he will have to either get his DVD player chipped or find some codes to watch the movie.
I have no idea what player he has (feel free to chip in) but does anyone know how to do it or where you can find the codes on the net to change regional settings?

I use Power DVD on my computer.
The software automatically detects the regional settings and notifies you about the change.

Good advise all the same...

Tim, in the past I've had great success using Google to find codes for a specific DVD player. There are plenty of forums out there that you can get the codes from for free.
Hope this helps.

Good advise all the same... Well, sports were never mentioned in the initial post. That's a world of difference!!!
Hung_mother is right. Google the type of DVD player with region free to find the cracks.

Thanks for getting this going, Tim! I was gonna start this thread up myself, but I got caught up in the spark plug/knock attenuation thread, and ended up reading all 76 pages of it! Ha ha!
So, yeah, I've got a few different players around here, but none of them are region free. I'd rather not chip the PS2 if possible. So far the comp is still winning the race here. I'll watch them there if necessary, but I'd rather find myself a cheap region free player or something. Some of the dvd players in this house are pretty cheap, though. If anybody knows how to mod them, that'd be ok, as they're not worth much anyway.

Well, I'll be darned!
Apparently, the cheap ass dvd player I bought at walmart is multiregion capable. regions 1-6. (I think there's 7 regions, isn't there?)
I bought this thing when I lived in a staffhouse for cheap, expecting it to get destroyed. It didn't, I brought it home, and it's actually lasted. So looks like I'm all set.
Thanks to all for the help, though. If for some reason it doesn't work, I'll still use this advice to make one of the other ones work for me...

Actually, it's a Norcent. Bought it almost 2 years ago for $80 CDN. It's amazing how cheap DVD players have gotten now...
Of course, Blu-Ray will be around by the end of next year. At least this time they've planned ahead a bit. Blu-Ray should be viable for 10-15 years. And, of course, DVD will still be widely available.
