A TLS rider looking in on the board, I’m also an old SV650s rider. I’m hoping I can help with any issues or upgrades that are proven to work on the TL that may also help with the SV1K. I’m also a founder and admin over at TLPlanet.com.
FWIW here’s a small list to look over (your opinion may differ).
The TPS (throttle position sensor) is notoriously miss set and requires a little tweak to set right. The benefit is a smooth throttle response at low RPM if it seems rough.
The SV1K uses the same 4 piston calipers as the TLS but with smaller rotors. On the TLS the 6 piston calipers from the TLR are a direct replacement. Even with the smaller rotor, this may still apply. Also upgraded brake lines and pads do wonders.
A TRE does wonders. There are a lot of options from a 50 cent resistor to a $100 ATRE (active timing retard eliminator, which I use). Learn as much as you can about this mod, every one seems to have a slightly different opinion. Here’s a site with some good info Click Here (http://home.iprimus.com.au/stevebm/TLS_Index.htm) and Here (http://home.iprimus.com.au/stevebm/TLS_Index.htm)
Cans (Exhaust) will make you love the V-Twin, maybe more than you should.
Do not attempt to go up to the TLs 190/50 tire… So many of use would rather have your 180/55’s to begin with (and possibly lighter 5.5” rims). The 190 just doesn’t lend well to quick turning.
To quicken the TL’s steering, raising the forks in the triples 8-10mm does wonders. It could also possible help the SV1K. (mix this with the 180/55 and I don’t miss my SV650s turning as much as I use too).

A local dealer has a brand new TLS just like that one on the floor. It was just more on insurance than my SV1S.

Those SATRE plans are awesome! I can't believe nobody thought to use the neutral light as a switch for the TRE in all these years they've been around. It's a genius idea that I might just put to use, seeing as my idle in neutral is all messed up because of the TRE.

That looks good, I was looking at buying a used TL 1000 then Suzuki made the SV, I think they are both good looking bikes in different ways.

Unfortunately I highsided the bike at Summit Point on 12 Jul. and it'll need a little love to get back together (er... money, not love).

Just saw Burncycle's thread... everyone should go visit www.tlplanet.com
It is a GREAT site... they even have an SV section. It is mostly a TLR/TLS site, but there are a great group of guys/gals on there... just as on here. There are even some of the same members over on www.katanaplanet.com
Alot of Katana owners (me included) upgraded their Kats, to Tillers or TLS's... again, GREAT group of people over there. I happened on this site, by accident, and look forward to becoming an active member...
Ride safe!

Is it just me or does anyone else think the rear seat cowl looks like a member of the Conehead family?

The TRE may do wonders for the TL series, but from what I've read here on the Portal, that mod is of doubtful value on an SV.
In any event, mine (no TRE) will do 15 MPH snap-throttle wheelies with stock gearing and has a seamless powerband.

Dave, While I was syncing/adjusting the TPS etc. I switched the TRE on and off. When switched on it also opens the STV's wider. Interesting.

Yup ECU thinks it's in 6th gear, and adjusts accordingly...Remap with a little more fuel in the midrange, and wow wee!

Mark, I DO notice the improvement. Maybe if more members had switched versions they would be more pleased with the modification.
I wired the switch due to tundra temp. starts....and I'm a hopeless tweaker.

I have always liked them in any color. The main factor for my SV purchase, rode a TLS.
