I am in the market for a new motorcycle and I am considering the SV1000S. I currently own a 98 Triumph TBS which is a traditional style motorcycle. For a new bike, I am interested in 'Sport-Tourer' types. At the moment I am interested in the Triumph Sprint ST (or RS).

I have heard a few good things about the SV1000 and wanted to get some opinions here. Is the SV1000 a 'sport-tourer'? That is I am not looking for a straight sport bike. I want an upright riding position and some wind protection at highway speeds (1/2 fairing kind of protection). I like a quick bike but don't need the blazing acceleration of a 'crotch rocket'. Would the SV1000S suit my needs?

Is there anyone near Atlanta (preferably south side) that I could meet up with to look over the bike and possibly test ride it?

There is a dealer in Atlanta offering the SV1000S at a price of $7000 even. Is this the best price around, or average?

Thanks for any help!

A Honda Interceptor 800 is a sport tourer. A SV1000S is not. It's not a full on "crotch rocket" per se but it leans heavily towards sport...and with a few tweaks can hang with most bikes out there except on top speed. Now with a couple of other modifications the other way: higher bar/clip ons, lower foot pegs, taller wind screen it could handle sport touring duties just fine. Oh, a new or altered seat would be a must too. Finally, one thing that keeps it from truly becoming a ST is the limited range. I will ride my SVs down to California next July...probably do 3000+ miles with a tank bag and saddle bags. If I keep daily miles between 300-400 I will be fine for the duration. Get on one!! $7k for a new "S" in my book is a STEAL!!

Which dealer is this? That is a very good price on an 'S' model. I'm assuming thats before tax, title, prep & delivery fees?

I am also in Atlanta but I have a naked SV1000. Very comfortable upright riding position. Crappy uncomfortable seat. Zero wind protection. Wouldn't trade it for the world...

With a 100 mile tank, no sports tourer, but keep it steady and you can be rewarded with up to 125 miles if not opening up too quickly.

As with the others, the seat is a little uncomfortable, but the pros outweigh the cons and as already discussed in the site in lots of threads, the price in the US is very good

No hesitation in recommending it :niceone: (well it is an SV site ;) !)

Look at Hollywoods bike under Online Trading. He has already done all the mods you are looking for and lives in Atlanta. Great bike at a great price. :niceone:
