Firstly lets look at the quality of this part. It comes in two versions and I chose the flush-mounted indicator version which retails at 150 pounds (not cheap).
Quality of spray job and colour match is OK. The part does display some moulding marks and loose matting on the reverse as the following pictures show.
Here you can see the underside of the part and how much care they have taken over moulding the part:

Just look at the state of these holes.

And a close-up - did they use an iron rod to do this?

So on to the fitting. The only reason I waited for over 6 weeks for this part to arrive was the fact that it could be fitted without altering your bike in any way. Low and behold, five minutes into the install and the bike needed cutting - the SVMania sales staff did not understand the product.
Here is another shot of the entire item. The flush mounted indicators do look neat and you will notice that it fits to the bike using 4 screws in place of the 4 push-poppers that come with the bike.

Here is the underside of the part - you need to fit the flush-mounted indicators yourself but its a very easy task and everything fitting snugly where required.

Now for the downside. The original undertray needs cutting to allow the recessed indicators to fit. This is because this undertray fits underneath your existing undertray. Clever design, shame about having to cut. Here is my standard undertray with two holes cut.

And here is the new undertray mated up with the old one. You can now see how they fit together.

Another mod required is to open out the rear mounting holes of the existing undertray to make room for the new undertray. Best shown with another picture I guess:

And here are the final fitted pictures. I have to admit it does look smart and gets rid of that hideous standard rear end.

A close up of the indicator - it is rubbing slightly on the brake housing - I will ease it with a file next time it is off.

Nice profile shot showing clean lines.

And finally the bike with the standard size number-plate for the UK fitted. I have since reduced the size but the bike is illegal.

The concept for this undertray is great.
The finish is not so great but liveable with.
The modification to your standard parts will not be seen if you revert back to standard parts.
The undertray does rub the brakelight cluster but this is more to do with the standard of finish than anything else.
The indicators use standard Suzuki connectors so no cutting of wiring is required - a big plus in my book.
The new number-plate hanger is trick, does the job well and there is room to fit your number-plate light on as well to stay legal.
If you like it then I suggest you buy it but beware, SVMania are not the easiest of companies to deal with and are all too ready to tell you your parts will be available but they are not. On the plus side they didn't take the money until the part was shipped and they are polite to talk to on the phone. With patience and care you will get what you ordered - eventually.
Overall I give this part 4 beers

Assuming the plate is of legal dimensions, are the flush mounted indicators on this undertray legal?
Not that it's an issue for a few years, but would they get through an MOT?
Any views?

They flash, they are easily observed, the standard numberplate does not block the view to the indicators so I'm presuming they are totally legal and don't think anyone will fail this bike at an MOT.

Did you have the same problem that I had with Ermax where the bulbs are far from up to the job (12v / 5W)?

It looks great. Now just slap a hugger on and the bike will look amazing. :D

Bulbs were up to the job straight from the box - I was impressed with the standard connectors and ease at which the thing wired up.
Hugger, you bet but the SVMania hugger was returned due to faulty manufacture and I'm sitting on the fence for a new one.

The fit of the undertray seems a bit sketchy although I must say that it looks great from any distance at all. Your description of the process on the other hand is of the highest order! Nicely done, I and I'm sure many others, really appreciate the time and detail you put into the report...kudos.

The quality of the undertray is a little lacking.
I`m considering having a genuine suzuki undertray fitted by Crescent Suzuki. If they can make 4 cylinders beat ducatis they must be able to do a quality job with the SV.

Quick question for you BJAM, My alarm/immobiliser is currently fitted under there somewhere.. I take it that based on the available space remaining (If I fit the SVMania undertray), I would have to relocate this?
Thanks,
Krusty..

No need, the undertray does not get in the way of existing alarms, wiring etc. You will not have a problem unless your alarm LED is poking out somewhere around the rear of the bike like mine was. It now shines all to itself inside the bike.
Regarding the fit - yes it does rub in places but its much better than other aftermarket parts I have fitted in the past.

Have to agree...overall effect, very nice but personally I'd have returned it on the basis of the finish...especially at £150 squids (ouch)!!
This bit is real poor.....

I brought an undertray for my naked sv from svmania paid £135 without flush fit indicators they supplied a nice set of black arrow ones.Apart from having to oblong the holes in the original undertray there was no other cutting involved.I must say i was more than happy with the quality you were right about the wait though i also ordered a hugger after waiting about 5 weeks phoned to see what was happening
only to be told they have just found out that the s and n are different swingarms so ive got to wait even longer

I had the same problem with the hugger, only problem was I took delivery of a hugger for the the S model, when I have an N. Got me well confused for a bit but after a phone call I found out the bikes had different swinging arms. Because of the wait I just kept it and added a small home made bracket to get it fitted.

I know this thread is about undertrays, but phoned SVMania over 2 weeks ago, and ordered crash bungs. Was told it would be with me in less than a week. Nothing arrived , called 2 more times, left message on answerphone, third time spoke to a very nice lady who said shipment was still in France but due to arrive within a couple of days, as of now after leaving another 2 messages, Im still waiting. Good eh. Adam

It seems that the stuff that comes from France takes forever to get here :( , I have order loads of other stuff from SVmania that was with me with in a couple of days.

i must admit i like the idea of integral indicators like the ermax but the poor finish really lets it down maybee they dont like silver bikes? :pokey:
i went for the powerbronze setup because you can get legal small indicators and it fits without having to resort to carving up the original parts and doing a bit of b.s. ;)
