Just stumbled across this site and noticed the good advice it has for fighting a ticket. There are tips even from a motor-cop! Looks like the three most important things are: 1) Shut up 2) Do not admit guilt 3) Request every bit of paperwork that you are legally entitled. Read and enjoy....Fighting a ticket (http://www.cbr1100xx.org/newhome.html)

Oh, click on The Law on top, and that will get you a menu to the left.

This is exactly what I did about 3 weeks ago. It was the first time in nearly 9 years I had been pulled over (last citation was 6 Jan 1991). I was respectful, admitted I was over the speed limit, had been distracted by the beautiful early morning, and was fully cooperative. I also believe the clean record (Florida Troopers carry full online access to your records right on their computers) and my wearing of full gear and protection helped. I got off with just a warning even though I was nearly 20 over the speed limit.

How fast over were you going Jim? Bike or car? I got pulled over 3 days after picking up my SV. I explained to the biker cop that I was just trying to vary the speed since I was breaking in the engine. :D The fact that I pulled over quickly and acted respectful...and was his age (39) with family got me off with a warning. He blatently said if I was 22 I would have got a nasty ticket. Looks like age is good for somethings besides wine. :niceone:

RJ,

I was doing 82 mph, on radar, on my bike. Fortunately I didn't pass the officer 20 seconds earlier, or the radar would have read considerably higher...

And the outcome wouldn't have been quite as nice. Glad you were able to keep the record clean! Haven't had a ticket stick in 10 years :) Knock on BIG wood!! We're expecting 80 degrees tomorrow so it's about 400 miles planned...yeeehaaa :Punk:

That's fucking sick. That cop should be fired. Not for letting you go, but for admitting that someone of a younger age would have gotten a ticket.

I agree Shawn...very blatent descrimination. But what was I supposed to say or do? He wasn't giving me a ticket for going over twice the posted limit. Didn't you know that not everyone is treated equal  With enough money, you can do anything...better stop now. :argh:

No, I'm very glad you didn't get the ticket, but this just proves the problem with people in this country. it's better to own a Ford expedition that gets 3 mpg rather than a bike that gets 45mpg. If it weren't for the fact that I shave my head and already look like a mean grumpy bastard, I would probably get dirty looks from people.... :ranting:

My opinion is I don't care how fast your going, if the cop puts the light on pull over as quick as possible. Tell the officer I know why you stopped me . If you have all your paper work in order most likely he will let you go. The rule around my area is if you ride with sneakers your going to get stopped. Most cops think sneakers mean you have no license. Also most cops who ride do wear all the protective gear. This is just my opinion, I have been stopped a high speeds and the officer thanked me for stopping. Gave me a warning and stated he wished he was out riding his bike. :D

An older lady gets pulled over for speeding... Older Woman: Is there a problem, Officer?

Officer: Ma'am, you were speeding.

Older Woman: Oh, I see.

Officer: Can I see your license please?

Older Woman: I'd give it to you but I don't have one.

Officer: Don't have one?

Older Woman: Lost it, 4 years ago for drunk driving.

Officer: I see...Can I see your vehicle registration papers please.

Older Woman: I can't do that.

Officer: Why not?

Older Woman: I stole this car.

Officer: Stole it?

Older Woman: Yes, and I killed and hacked up the owner.

Officer: You what?

Older Woman: His body parts are in plastic bags in the trunk if you want to see.

The Officer looks at the woman and slowly backs away to his car and calls for back up. Within minutes 5 police cars circle the car. A senior officer slowly approaches the car, clasping his half drawn gun.

Officer 2: Ma'am, could you step out of your vehicle please! The woman steps out of her vehicle.

Older woman: Is there a problem sir?

Officer 2: One of my officers told me that you have stolen this car and murdered the owner.

Older Woman: Murdered the owner?

Officer 2: Yes, could you please open the trunk of your car, please.

The woman opens the trunk, revealing nothing but an empty trunk.

Officer 2: Is this your car, ma'am?

Older Woman: Yes, here are the registration papers. The officer is quite stunned.

Officer 2: One of my officers claims that you do not have a driving license.

The woman digs into her handbag and pulls out a clutch purse and hands it to the officer.

The officer examines the license. He looks quite puzzled.

Officer 2: Thank you ma'am, one of my officers told me you didn't have a license, that you stole this car, and

that you murdered and hacked up the owner.

Older Woman: Bet the liar told you I was speeding, too.

This could work worldwide, don't you think. JB

Weeks ago I was pulled over after passing a CHP officer hiding under an overpass. He didn't clock me, but my 30 miles over the posted speed limit was blantly obvious, yet I pushed on hoping he didn't see me  . 5 miles down the road I looked in my mirrors as he pulled behind me and hit the lights. At this time I knew I was in for it as I only had a permit which in CA does not allow one to operate a motorcycle on FREEWAYS and seeing how I was pulled over on I-10 at 95 + mph my only thought was,"boy my wife is going to be mad." I was absolutely coopertive, never mentioned I was in the military or an MP at that. He showed me I wasn't suppose to be on the 10 with the permit and I respectfully told him where I was headed and that I wasn't out on just a joy ride. With that he told me to proceed to my destination in the slow lane at 65 mph and then to return and even reminded me over his PA that I hadn't buttoned up my CD player I had to turn off to talk with him. Overall, greta experience. Went out the next day and got my license. :niceone:
