View Full Version : I need new gloves

My gloves are getting close to needing replacement. Currently have a pair of Alpinestars SPS gloves. They have held up well and have been pretty comfortable so far, although the fingers are just a hair short for me. I bought them because I liked the extra leather on the fingers and the extra padding/material on the palm. (I also like the look too.) Thinking of getting a gauntlet style glove the next go around as I think they would offer a bit more protection but don't know. I am also now more willing to spend the $$ than I used to be so looking for recommendations.

Any shall we say, "tested" glove reports?

What say you??

I have a pair of Held gloves in kangaroo that I have been extremely happy with. Very well made, very comfortable, pretty expensive.

Picked up some Lee Parks Deer Skins at Laguna Seca last summer. Made out of our nemisis! Buy some gloves, kill a deer....works for me.

These have a really good temp range...from probably 55 degrees and up. Hands do not get too sweaty since they breath well.

Oh, and they are as soft as bunny balls.

The next most comfortable gloves I had were Held's. I finally wore them out....literally wore through a few fingers.

Also have a pair of Gore Tex Alpinestars. Medium weight....not the most ideal summer gloves but good for 50-70 degrees. And water proof. They are pretty comfortable but not like the above.

Have never "tested" these gloves thankfully.

Here's linky (http://www.ridetriangles.com/pdf/543/204020.pdf) to a glove test in Ride magazine. Their product tests are pretty good and although the article is a bit old, it might help you choose what gloves to get...

if you can find some Racer (that's the brand name) gloves I highly recommend them. See the Web Bike World review here (http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-gloves/racer-gloves/)

I recently crash tested them and my hands did not suffer any injury.

.

I'll second that. Lee Parks' gloves are great. If you read his web site, you can see the level of thought that went into designing these gloves. You can also learn about some drawbacks of the competitors' products.

I recently purchased some Alpinestar GP Plus Gloves. They feel like they'd do the business if called upon to do so. They fit me just fine, give me plenty of feel and they secure very well to my hands.

I've always wanted to get a good pair of gloves, but no stores near me carry ones I like, and I don't want to order them online since my hands are strange shape. My hands are skinny (maybe L size), and my fingers are really long (XXL length).

I would want to make sure the gloves fit before I spent like 150 ordering a good set online, ya dig?

Funny I did not see any $150 gloves in the link I posted .........Motostrano has great customer service & will work with you if the article does not fit or is incorrect. :niceone:

Haha well I wasn't specifically talking about your link. But even still, I don't want to spend $50 on a pair of gloves and then find out they're just a TAD too tight, and put pressure on my fingertips when I curl my hands around the throttle (ALWAYS has been the case). Any kind of custom glove sizing is gonna cost a lot too...... :disapint:

I'll check out your link. Maybe it has something I've missed on my aimless glove wanderings on the intarweb.

Second the recommend for Held's. A little on the expensive side, but so are skin grafts. They are all I wear, but I wish they were easier to find (not mail order).

Doug Modesto Ducati carries the full Held Line. I was going to buy a new pair of all black ninja gloves but chickend out at the last minute. I instead bought another pair of the Racers shown above.

K7 if you get a decent set of leather gloves then they will stretch after a few rides. I use Lexol leather conditioner on the gloves to help with the stretching. I put the gloves on, spray the lexol and work them into the palm and in between the fingers. Pull on the fingers of the glove and contiuosly make fists. I also make sure my finger nails are trimmed too.

That is my problem as well. I don't have huge hands or basketball player fingers but my finger tips always seem to be crammed into the tips.

Nice tip. Will have to try that on my next pair.

I have had good luck with Teknic gloves, which are really pretty inexpensive. Honestly, I'm really surprised how well they have held up. I haven't bought any for a while. Currently, I have a set of Vanson custom gloves.

If I were buying, I'd probably look at Teknic and Held. Vanson's customs are hard to get. Love everything else they make.

I use Spidi Penta gloves. They were pricey but appear to be well made and offer good protection. I did suffer hairline fractures in a pinky and thumb (different hands) with them during a track day lowside a couple years ago. But I don't think you can blame the gloves for that - it all depends on how you hit the asphalt. Probably would have had the same injuries no matter what gloves I had on. Neither hand experienced any road rash at all nor did any of the glove seams come apart.

I found this set recently. I'm not big on the Technic stuff for leathers, but the gloves, I have tested them.

It's a really good deal too...The place is a good place too...

+3 as per Joe S and Doug. I was given a pair of racing Helds as a gift a few years ago and they are still going strong. Easily the most comfortable gloves I've owned. Thankfully I haven't had to "test" the protection level but they are certainly robust with Kangaroo skin and all that.

Found a dealer with decent prices on the Held's.

Those were too good of a deal to pass on. If I don't like them, only out 40 bucks so not that big of a deal. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up on those. Not quite what I want but now I have a new site to check.

Still thinking about a pair of Helds also. Thanks for all the replies.

I also have the alpinestars SPS Gloves and they survived a low speed crash with minor cuts on the palm and other then that they were great... the only issue I have it that with the L the fingers are just a few mm too short so the hurt the tips of my fingers. an XL would be too big in the palms I would think... So I'm looking for new gloves too!
