Took the SV to the Isle of Man recently to vistit the Mecca of road racing. Lovely place with friendly people - definitely going to return again sometime soon...
Anyways, rode the TT course with a couple of mates and took some video footage - had to split it into 2 parts as Youtube limits clips to 10 mins. John McGuinness holds the track record with an average speed of just over 130mph. Reckon my average was a lot closer to 30mph!! Seriously though, an average of 130 means that every time you drop to 90mph you need to get up to 170mph. The chap is a god. MotoGP racers have average speeds a lot lower and they don't ride through villages or over humpback bridges!!

Good videos Hatcho, it looks like you had a good time. The other thing though when the TT runs all traffic is shutdown as well, something you had to contend with........

Even without traffic and speed limits its beggars belief that someone could manage a 130 average speed. I just pipped 120 on the mountain section (according to the GPS) and I was pretty much at my limit.

The first time we rode around the course I doubt we went more than 50 mph. But it didn't matter - just being there was amazing!:Punk::niceone:

We did the Isle of Man in '86 - probably the only time Nigel got a kidney punch!!! We were doing Mad Sunday - as you do  - and on the approach to Creg ny Baa the bike was airborne, and I was airborne too... :baby:
Then we let the lads go out and do it again while we girls all got ready to go out, and he dropped it at Wndy Corner :ranting: - but he still beat all the other guys back to the hotel
Looking forward to watching the vids when I get a chance, Sean :D Maybe I'll get himself to sit in front of me, and we can relive old times

So is anyone coming over to the Island for TT08? Practices have already started and the mountain section is one way. You just have to experience that once in your life.

We stayed in the Adelphi hotel in Douglas. Heres a linky (http://www.iomhotels.co.uk/) to their website. Chose it cause it was cheaper than most. Parked the bikes in their front garden so its sorta off-street. Space enough for 3 bikes - 2 SV's and a Beemer. More a B&B than a true hotel - but think thats the case for the majority of the hotels in Douglas. If you want real hotels with bar/reception/restaurant etc then be prepared to pay a bit more.
To be honest we were either out on the bike or the town so the room was just a place to put the head for some much needed sleep each night. Adelphi is pretty central - quite close to the promenade and shops/bars etc.
Lovely restaurant toward the ferry terminal end of the promenade called Jaks - its downstairs in a pub by the same name. Great food and service - well worth a visit.

hey hatcho my man ! whats with the funny green vests? i dont recall you wearing them down ere in de deep south man ?
All joking aside if you are a biker and you havent done the TT you aint lived !!!
I well remember a couple of friends of mine (1m 1f) riding a bike two up without a stitch of clothing past the highlander pub armed with only water pistols with which they sprayed the local fuzz et al and which they received nothing but a laugh from the cops and cheers from the bikers. my m8 who was riding the bike later on that evening entered the wet t shirt competition at some venue where he changed into a set of falsies, aided by all the girls no less, who put make up on him and did his hair as well. he went on to finish 3rd out of the 50 who entered!! quite a hoot!!

That is SICK !!!
I imagine the locals are especially mindful during the races and practice but still. That is "legal street racing" and that course takes balls bigger than mine I think.

Why do you guys drive on the wrong side of the road? Or is it just us?
(w00t)
It's you i'm afraid.
The Romans started driving on the left. In horse drawn carts it means you don't hit pedestrians on the side of the road with your whip and in a chariot, it means your sword is on the correct side to fight approaching traffic.
It was Napoleon who decide to change it in Europe as a way of stamping his authority on any country he invaded. For some years many of those countries he had not reached drove on the left still, until common sense made everyone on the continent drive on the same side. The last to change was Sweden in the 1950's.
History lesson over!
Great video, I will get to the Island one day!!!
