i just found this on youtube and it seems pretty interesting to me. the sv seems to keep up just fine with the busa. Im guessin busa edged em out at the end but if you watch the sv had a shitty jump off the line..

lets hear what you all think http://youtube.com/watch?v=SlmerTS9Bf8

hmmmmm....

first.. interesting choice of clothing.. I didnt know they allowed slacks at a 1/4 strip....

second.. had to be the guys first time at the strip or was taking it easy due to the fact he was wearing slacks...

very soft leaving the line. it seemed that he was not spooling the motor up for a launch... just kinda like he was waiting at a traffic redlight...

still, all in all the SV did keep up pretty good with the 'Busa....

One of the comments says "sounds like a Harley". I saw that once in a Craigslist ad for a SV also.

Pretty much once someone makes a Budweiser comment like that I'm done listening.

...that works for "RULEZZZ" too.

This quote:

"was the man on the SV in slacks?? he was trying to do the business on it..... get it... business... ok ok ok bad joke sorry:):) "

Gets off work, decides to have a go down the strip. What next....

That was not a race btw...

It's always nice to see someone having fun ,but at the drags when both folks know what they are doing the Busa will flat out shut down the SV. Hell I raced one that had a turbo and 2 stage and even though he blew up at the 1/8 mile mark and coasted thru the traps at 81 mph he still beat me by 2 seconds. Even stock they are low 9's with a decent rider and the best I've ever done is very high 10's. A few of the Busa riders were having a little fun with me and asked why I even bothered coming to the drags as they wouldn't think of going to a road course. I told them that every once in a while I didn't have to race one of their missles and could actualy be competive.

ya forget the guys slacks maybe he was goin to the mall afterwards or somethin lol. I don't know i just liked the vid because it looked like the sv had a shot, maybe the guy on busa was toying with him.

but this otherdude was sayin somethin bout a busa wit turbo an this an that, well ofcourse that's gona beat the pants outa anything. Im guessin this one had pipes an powercommander, but so did sv. I just think this is kinda inspirational video to let everyone know (specially those with the thirst for moddin there bike till it explodes) that the gap isn't that much.

you had said busa=low 9's sv=high 10's ....... your talking about 2 meesly seconds, 1.......2 really not that much of a gap when you think that busa guys pay 40% more than sv owners

this was one of the comments i liked=

It surprised me, how good the SV could stay close to the Busa. Just compare the design basics of the two bikes, and you expect that the busa should be way faster.

On the other hand, that V-twin engine of the SV rulezzz

an about the comment about the "sounds like a harley"......... well it deffinetly don't sound like I-4 an that's what i told my old lady when i got my yosh pipes bc i was expectin that high pitched whine like I-4 but not dissatisfied in any way LETS GO PENS!!!!! the cup coming home baby

2 seconds through the quarter is a HUGE difference. Do you think a Harley Electroglide is fast? It's about 2 seconds slower through the quarter than the SV....maybe more, but still, it is SLOW compared to an SV....which in the quarter is SLOW to a Busa.

Is it going to ruin my day? Nope.:)

I have owned BOTH at the same time and raced with my son.The SV is a little quicker to about 80 but the Buse will pass the SV like you cut the switch off in 3rd gear. The SV is great for what it is but make no mistake about it,it ain't no Buse killer, even an SV thats built will have a hard time if the riders are equal.Ride safe and enjoy that your neck don't cramp.lol.....Les

Hmmm, 2 seconds behind in a 10 second race...

Seems like a big deficit actually...

If you were roadracing and ONLY got a 2 second a lap lead (seems kinda small for a 2 mile or so track until you think of it) at the end of the typical club level 10 lap heat race you would be 20 seconds ahead. Times like that are pretty much measured with a calendar, and are typically the difference between first and 22th place.

What speed is a Eye-a-busa doing when it crosses the line?

dumb guess... 140 mph?

140 mph = 205 feet per second...

2 seconds is 410 feet...

...but that is if the SV was also going 140, which is probably about 20 mph high. I am to lazy to figure the math, but the closest the SV could possibly be (assuming lazy math) is somewhere over 410 feet behind the Eye-a-busa.

Which is a pretty decent view of another fellas behind, not really a good thing in my book.

:ass:Did I miss something here? We can't see from the angle in that video how far apart they were when they crossed the line. I owned an SV for nearly 5 years and currently own a standard 'busa. I'm no speed demon but I'd say the SV could keep up (well, not along side:D) a hayabusa over a standing 1/4 mile drag race but it would soon be out of sight if the race were longer. The SV tops out around 160 but the hayabusa is just coming on song at that speed. These 1300 motors are mental. I should know, I've left kenbarcon way behind on many occasion:ass:

Only on the straight roads though. I must admit that i have had a go on a Busa a couple of years ago and the SV has no chance of keeping with it above 100mph, the Busa just keeps pulling away.

If I ever have to face off at a drag strip vs a busa.. I'll make damn sure it's an 1/8 mile strip :P Then I can lmao for paying half what they did :D

I hate threads like this - especially when people that have never been to drag strip start talking.

My best times on:
SV1000S was 11.30 @ 120
02 Bandit 1200S 11.11 @ 120
95 ZX6E 11.9 @ 111
05 FZ1 10.60 @ 129
02 Busa 10.10 @ 140
05 ZX10R 10.17 @ 140

THis is all stock wheelbase, slip on, K&N and -1 front sprockets... And you can bet your azz that 1 sec in a 1/4 mile is like 10 bike lengths. Now if the slower bike has a better rider to get out of the hole (60ft and 330ft) then it will be close to the 1/8 but as you can see MPH is an indication of RWHP and ET is an indication of SKILL/RWTQ. Pretty simple - get a lane and let's DO IT...

How do you manage launching hard on the SV?

When I try it I keep the revs at about 4000, then start letting the clutch out - first there's nothing, then it grabs suddenly and hard, usually kicking the front in the air...

I just lean forward like an SOB and go through first second and third with the front coming up a little less in each. Now mind you this was stoplight drag racing with myself, but it was fun. Like you said, Rev to around 4, or where I hear the engine hit that happy place, I can't really tell, its instinict, and by that point I'm not watching the tac.

First gear floats the most but with a smooth but fast clutch release by the time the tire reaches a foot or so I'm blasting into second. Second gear floats a slight amount less and third floats enough that I can move the forks for a few seconds. I've never had sudden power grab out of my SV, it's always came in just as smoothly as I released the clutch.

Good way to put it william

I out run a 2007 busa last trip to the local 1/8th mile by a mile but I talked to the guy after wards and he had had the bike for 5 days and his first launch .....what a confidence buster lol but I was still happy cause all my friends saw it
