I am looking for an allweather jacket/suit mainly for commuting and the occasional long haul.
So far I have narrowed it down to the Alter Ego jacket and pants. Anyone have an opinion on this stuff or on something else that might also work?
I have to contend with temperatures varying from perhaps as low as 10 deg C and going up to 25+ possibly on the same day, so I like the idea of the removable panels in the alter ego suit, as well as the rain liners.
Thanks

the material is not very strong...feel it and you'll know...but if you're going on trips or if you just want 1 jacket...it's a good compromise...

It sounds as though the Alter Ego would be a good choice for your riding climate. As far as protection...IDK

I don't have the jacket but I do have the pants. They work fine. It's
a nice feature to be able to take off the removeable part and get some
ventilation when needed.

I bought that jacket a few years ago and can say I'm pleased with it. Its nice to be able to remove some layers when it gets hot but it only affords minor protection so I only wear it for mellow rides. I posted a few comments on it a while back in this THREAD (http://www.sv-portal.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12400). So far my only problem has been a seam in one of the nylon mesh pockets came undone creating a hole big enough for a garage door opener to fit through.

Ive had one for a while, use it on occasion when its to hot for the Dainese, it survived a spill at the dragon a few years back w/ just a few minor scuffs....seems to hold up pretty well

I have the jacket and wear it when it's really hot out (90+ F) but other than that I wear by leather. I'm allergic to road rash.

I have the pants. They work very well in both cold and
warm weather.

I am trying to decide now between the Alter Ego pants or Aerostich Darien ...
On the trip to Indy I wore a pair of Darien pants and they were awesome. I can see the getting warm if the temperature gets over 20 deg C .. but the built in waterproofing, and the toughness of the things... Granted they will cost me twice as much... bah.. I probably need both  Alter Egos for the hot months and Darien for the rest...

Prior to my trip I had no riding pants. Jeans were the way for me. But, do to the cold temps, I decided I would need a pair of pants. I decided to go with the Alter Ego pants because I already have the Alter Ego jacket (1st version-I don't care much for the new design). My jacket has help up quite well for the 3+ years I've had it. On my trip we rode in temps down to 36 F for almost 3 hours. The pants worked great at keeping me warm but I did find a flaw. Despite being contoured they still rode up a little allowing my legs just above my boots to get cold. That was easily fixed with some longer socks. We did ride in the rain several times and the pants did great keeping the rain out. One thing I noticed that I think was overlooked is a second set of zippers to get to pants pockets when the rain/wind liner is out. I found the fit to be just fine. I'm tall and thin and the large/tall pants did great. The fit was not too tight overtop of jeans. The knee armor is adjustable and comes in the upper setting. I did have to lower the armor but thats no big deal. Overall I am happy with my purchase and would recommend these pants to those looking.

Thanks for the review.
I plan on a cross country jaunt next July, so probably the Alter Ego pants will be the ticket. I will probably also get the TALL size, though I am short I like the extra overlap of the boots.
