Wow Criag looks like you're going to be busy with that...

Good work fella.

Perhaps a seperate map for Canada? Andy - have you got a Canada map in your arsenal?

Canada map here (http://www.wsm.inuk.com/sv1000/canada.jpg)
(obviously needs editing)
By the way, as much as I might like to, I can't take credit for these maps...just finding them on the net!

Ok...done some work on that original map....so here's the finished Canada Map (http://www.wsm.inuk.com/sv1000/images/CanadaMap.jpg)

Just need a volunteer to take on the job of updating with the locations of Canadian Members!!

Volunteers??!! :D

I would suggest that someone from Canda takes up the task - I'd offer but I haven't got a clue where to find places in Canada.

and the link to your new map is broken - do you mean this map (http://www.wsm.inuk.com/sv1000/canada.jpg)?

Cheers
Bish

I agree Bish it would be a lot better if someone from Canada took up the task. When Ive been doing the american map I have been sitting with a full size wall map beside me trying to pin point where members are and sometimes Im still 300 miles out! At one stage I had "mooner" who lives in washington in washington DC, which is the other side of the USA! :) If I was doing one of NI or eire it would be a hell of a lot easier and would no doubt take half the time.

cheers, Craig

I will volunteer. As long as you guys are okay with a procrastinator who will probably drop the ball after a few months.
My only concern is the size of the map. Canada is friggen huge. I would need the whole page just for Sourhern Ontario and I do not want to leave the rest of the country out.
Does anyone know how to get a map that will show the whole country and then if you click on a Province it will zoom in to that province only? If not I will do it for Southern Ontario only as that will be where 90% of the Canadian owners live I am sure.

Put me down in Saguenay or La Baie (damn city fusion), Quebec. You will probably see a Airfield call Bagotville. If you take Quebec city as ref point, 200km N-N-E,

Thanks

I can sort that out but you'll need your own web space or access to web space somewhere as you can only publish images on the forum and not web pages.............

The guys in the States are managing with a map that's not that big.....can't you guys, at least for starters? (US map (http://www.sv1000.zyns.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3203&page=1))

I'll sort you out a bigger image (similar size to the US map) if you like Wylie.

Hi guys,

Wylie, if you don't really want to do it I would be more than happy to take over the task. I have plenty of spare time at work and I spend most of my time on the computer. However, if you are really set on it than thats great too.

yt35
12th May 2004, 01:13 AM
Also, I would make a list of rider names and or nick names with the Town or city they live in. Not any specific addresses though, too risky! Along with that and email list.

Add me to the list, Milton ontario, there should be a way of taking a list of all candian riders from the portal user list and just adding them to the map, that would make it easier and we can then add in our events and ride outs to our local areas on the map.

I dunno just an idea,...

Maybe one of us should get on this again, ie. making the map ourselves....

Is this pretty hard to do, or pretty easy. If it's going to take some time, I could try it over the winter, but for the next little while, I'm going to be riding while I can...

might need a little bit of instruction from some of you guys, but I'd give it a shot....if yt's not around anymore that is.

Nick

I think the whole issue is finding a place to host the map and then updating it

Also, from what I read, trying to fit everyone on a map might require a big map, etc.

Anyways, do we really need a map? I mean can't we just keep a list by Province?

1. Someone starts a new thread and the first posting contains the list
2. The admin makes it a sticky so it's always at the top of the forum
3. Whoever start the thread edits the list on a periodic basis (every week??) based on the new postings to the thread.

Cool??

The only question I have is can the admins allow someone else to edit the posting in case for whatever reason the first person can't continue to update the list?

OK, this is what I mean.

I've compiled all the members who said that they were from Canada. (It would have been alot easier if I had access to the database...) and listed them with the Province and City.

If I missed anyone, or if it's wrong, post the info. and I'll update it.

Just unzip the file and open in Excel.

I've added in filters for the Province and City. If someone want's to find owners near them, then all they'll need to do is filter on the city or province.

What do you guys think? If you guys like it, I'll start a new thread with this file attached to the first post. I'll ask the mods to make it a sticky.

Glad you liked it.

I can't take credit for the links though, they were already linked on the members list.

I think the Excel format allows us to sort and organize the info much easier.

Hey I got so much off this site, I think it's about time I did something to pay it back.
