Hello all

I just got off the fone ordering a 2003 Cooper (the faster color, right? ) SV1000S from Ohio. It should be delivered by Friday or so I have been told. I am so, so SO excited about this. After much delibiration betweenan 03 Superhawk and 03 SV1000S, the SV won out. I am (was) a huge honda fan, so this was hard for me to do. But, the SV1000s is a better bike by all means and was cheaper (including shipping) to here - I can't wait to hear the v-twin rumble.

A little riding history - been riding since 4th grade. I started off on 50cc mopeds, moved to scootera, 150cc motorcycles, 350cc motorcycles and then came to the US and bought a FZR600 in 1997. In 1999, I sold the FZR and bought a 98 Buell s1 white lightning (12 o clock machine) and sold it shortly to finish college. Bought another whitey in 2001 and sold it to get married 6 months later. Now, I purchased the SV and hope to keep it for a long time!

I will be posting asking some dumb questions, so bear with me ya'll. I promise to learn fast.

Any other SV guys in Iowa who read this, holla! :D

Well, Iowa's flag should be pigs. There are more pigs than people in this state of corn! I will answer the bike question when I get it, so bear with me, bud! I am supposed to recieve it tomorrow or friday. I am giddy with excitement - I couldnt sleep last nite

Thanks for the welcome, guys and gals!

Welcome to the site BlackSheep, you made the right choice of bike, but I think you were misled a little about the copper being the faster colour (here we go again.......) :D
Happy riding

Let me clear this up!!! Pigs are below 180 pounds hogs are over 180 pounds.
There are more hogs than pigs but still more people than hogs. Iowa isn't the nowheresville USA like everyone thinks. (Illinois is actually a larger producer of corn than Iowa is). I have traveled around the world to other small towns/villages and large towns/villages and I always love coming back to IOWA! The majority of our people are nice and educated. We don't have straw between our teeth and say things like pertnear!! Ok at least I don't!!

Born and raised in Iowa and proud of it. Even more proud of being an American!! Sorry about the rambling!!
HAHAHAHA

Congrats on your purchase. I have almost 600 miles on mine and love every minute of it. I took it out last night and straightened some twisties out with it. My buddy tried to keep up with me on his Magna, but only became a speck in the mirrors!! :first: I have a buddy with a 2002 Super-Hawk and they are pretty evenly matched. They even sound the same. I guess I will have to get some cans for mine. Whats Two Brothers # again!!

Let us know what you think. Copper is the smart choice!! Not that you care but the women seem to love it!!

2WIN - whoa! I got owned by you, brau! I was being very light-hearted about Iowa. I do love it and how laid back things are. None of that big city riff-raff.

Chick across ths street asked me what Color I was getting and I said copper. She was like cool - it matches my hair . I was tempted ask, where? :bleh: But, my wife would have kicked my ass to the curb! :bash:

That's too good!

 I wasn't going off!! Just stating a fact!! Sorry if it sounded that way!!

I don't want people to get the wrong impression of Iowa!!

Although many already do. I believe every state is beautiful in its own way.
You just have to find it and some are harder to find!!

LOL We are currently getting MORE rain here. The Mississippi is out of its banks as it is!!

LOL, growing up in India, I saw "mississippi burning" and was nervous to come to the US - Figured the guys in the white cloaks and horses would come and :buggerd: me ! ;)

Sure, that would a fun ride. I cant wait to get mine. Apparently, the guy is 2.5 hrs away from DSM chilling out for the nite. So, tomorrow around this time, I should be the proud owner of a copper SV.... :D

I got her this morning at 7:45 am. A white chevy box van delivered a my pretty copper baby weighing 412 pounds...

I am very impressed with the finish and quality. I was all nervous it would be beat up or scratched. It had miles on it, ummm 1 mile actually! :first:

So, anyways, it all dirty and dusty from storing in the warehouse.

To all who asked, I paid $6750 shipped from Ohio. It was the last one they had. No one in Iowa or around could touch this price. Local dealer wants 7800 + $250 freight...screw that.

I am so excited. I took her out on a spin and ran outta gas promptly. I had to push to the nearest Kum & Go (name of gas station, not a porn shop  ) and get er all filled up.

The torque is awesome. I just ordered the tankslapper deluxe proterction kit.

Next, come undertail, hugger and flush signals in front. I cant wait.

Keeping it under 5000 rpms is so hard.

I need to wash it asap! Can I get her fully wet ;) ? Dont wanna mess the electrics up, please advise!

Don't worry about getting her wet just don't spray hard and you shouldn't have any problems. Nice slow trickle from the hose ought to do just fine.

Congrats!! :msn-wink:

I don't know...CAN you get her wet? Sorry. Of course you can!! I would just be a little careful when using high pressure. And promtly dry her too.

Here's a tip. Go change the oil. NOW. Don't wait for 600 miles. This will be your most important change in the engine's life cause most of the crap will come loose early. Also, don't worry about the 5k limit for reving...just don't load the engine too hard but let her rev...and vary the speed. Stay away from droning!! Okay....now have fun. :headbang:

Whew, I wasnt sure, I came off as being a lil retarded, but better "safe than sorry"

One thing that did scare the crap outta me - all those burning smells, some heavy blowby right when I started riding it, the dealer guy said its normal with a new bike. It has stopped now....

The guy across the street took delivery of his 954RR as well yesterday, so we cruised yesterday. Surprised how many people actually thought the SV looked better and complimented it more.

"Copper aint no curse, copper is king!" :D

Lookin' good man! :msn-wink: People seem to love the copper, it gets me a lot of compliments. How many miles did you put on her this weekend?

My brother and I went out and tried to make the chiken strips a little smaller. Went from 1/2 an inch to 1/4. Didn't get the knee down though, don't have the right riding gear to do that. It suprizes me how far these bikes will lean.

COOL!! Sounds like you're on the right track to getting setup right!
I changed my oil at 348 miles! I am still holding out at 550 miles due to the absolutly sh---y weather we keep getting. Farmers are loving it though!!
I can only ride on weekends due to my job. Every night I goto the gym so I have to drive the truck. (GEAR) OOPS sorry you don't care!!

Anyway, when are we going to ride???

And by the way your right. Copper is KING!!

I always wondered on the blue and silver bikes, do their LCD's back lighting match the color of the bike like ours do? HAHAHA!!

You guys might want to get your bikes past the break-in period before we meet for a ride. I'd feal bad always pulling away from you since you can't go above 5000 rpm. :D Just kidding. I don't have any big plans for the next couple of weekends so if you guys want to get together that would be fine with me. Just let me know.

Sorrry for the late reply, gang. Work and now class is keeping me busy.

King Copper has 166 miles on it. Annoying rear brake squeal at its best. I need to make it stop already. :ranting:

I have summed up the V-twin ride and have a few issues that I hope are normal...

- She pulls hard from 1st to 4th almost at any rpms which is good. I have gone to 7000 rpms once or twice. I try to vary the load per the owners manual.
- She does seem to run rich. I smell gas all the time. - Ideas?
- Damn coathanger sidestand sucks and getting used to it is annoying.
- Louder than my buddy's 954RR which he got the same day as me
- 3 times so far, it wont go into 1st from neutral unless I go to 2nd and then back into 1st - Ideas?
- Died on me twice when slowing down in neutral for a stoplight - Ideas?
I have ordered a few little things for it....

1) SV1000S manual from ebay
2) 2 Orange 4 bulb LED's to replace running lights
3) Full slider set from bikeslider.com (frame, bar-end and swingarm)
4) 2 zeus helmets (for the wife and me) and joe rocket coat in black
5) SV silver/carbon grips
6) Tanslapper.biz deluxe kit
7) Hamicad deluxe fender eliminator ordered today (So people arent embarassed to ride next to me :weep: )

Soon to be ordered:
1) seat cowl (suzuki)
2) hugger (suzuki)
3) short stalk amber turnsignal set (dont trust LED's and flushmounts, rather live than look cool and die coz ganny franny could see me thru the windshield of her buick)
4) copper shield from WHA

Then, I am done for this year! Next year, the power adders shall go on.

This weekend I am off to Cordova for the big NDRA race. I am one of those ricers who like to make their rice burner cars go fast :Punk: My buddy's turbo civic will be running there.

Anyways, Thats about all from my end. I like the exhaust on that SV, bro. Looks toiiight!

BadMonkey
4th June 2004, 12:02 PM
blacksheep, the only thing I can say is I have never smelled gas coming from the bike and you should get it to Suzuki before you blow up. As far as to other issues I'm worthless, and I'm sure someone will help.

Happy you like the bike, and congrats on all the new stuff that's on the way. I am spending all my extra money on crap for my shack of a house. :weeping:

blacksheep
4th June 2004, 06:13 PM
Thanks, Badmonkey. It runs strong, I just smell gas once in a while. Wondering if it is just breakin in or I have a sensitive nose.

Dont feel bad, its smarter spending on a house, the value always goes up, not down like a bike no matter what u do to it. :weep:

I got the Harris grips today - need to figure out how to install them. Will do that with the bar-end sliders, I guess. I also got my coat - its almost like a football jacket with the gaurds and stuff. I look like I am outta mad max or something. Better to be safe than sorry. I will use it for long rides and when its fulla traffic...

Anyways, time to get to work!
