View Full Version : The strangest things

Just for fun this one although the consequences may have been serious at first.
Riding home last night, banked over on a left hander, when a badger runs out in front of me. No time to avoid or brake, just ran straight over the middle of the thing. I stopped, turned around to look but it was gone - bizzare.
So what is the strangest thing you have run over or hit - living or dead?

I ran over a small dog - in front of its owner. the dog ran right between my front and rear tires and I ended up going over it with my rear tire. I felt terrible about that for a quite a few days. When I turned around to go back and check on things both the owner and the dog were gone.

A snake. Normally, not very strange but it was in the mountains...and they aren't common in Western WA. He/she was living before it took a tire track.

My first animate object was 31 lb. Raccoon. Scared the hell out of me and knocked the hell out of the raccoon.
Same summer I nearly struck a deer, and only missed by a couple inches. The hoof of one of its rear feet actually struck the side of my helmet as we crossed paths at about 40 mph.
And I unfortunately managed to hit a dog with the right exhaust header on my 76 CB450. I felt quite bad, as I am a dog lover, and this poor young shepherd took the hit right on the head. I carried the dog almost two blocks to a vet, buy it was to no avail. Though it was not my fault, I felt quite quilty the entire summer after that incident :(
Most recently, about 3 weeks ago, had another deer jump in front of me. This time I missed by about 10 feet, and that was very good since I was doing about 75 mph on the back wheel..... (w00t)

Hit a dog to once on my Honda CB400n wetdream, I was going down a dual carriageway in the right hand lane overtaking a car, doing maybe 50 mph. This black dog ran out in front of the car and made it across the 1st lane and I swear I thought I saw a look of "that was close" turn to "oh shit" on the dogs face when it saw me coming. I thought if I brake now both of us would end up in the shit , so I accelerated hoping for the best, the dog ran into the side of the bike. I turned back at the next cross over but the dog was gone. When I got to where I was going I noticed a tuft of black hair on the gear lever, being a dog lover too I felt pretty shit about it but I was glad I didn't fall off myself.
I had a sheep jump across the road about 2 feet in front of me once, frightened the shit out of me as I was on a mates VTR at the time......I thought fences were there to keep the buggers in their fields and didn't think they could jump like that.........any way I went back and raped the shit out of it ;)

I havent hit anything but my old man has a few stories from his 35+ years of rolling on 2 wheels.
He was going on a run with about 3 other guys (all on hogs). The first two guys were riding side by side and he was behind them in the center of the lane. Think of a reverse flying V.
So there they are cruising some backroad when Lassie runs out in front of their little pack. The first two bikes break left and right and narrowly miss the dog, my pops had no chance, he hit the dog head on and rolled right over it. With 800+ lbs of custom chopper underneath the 150lb dog was no match.
The three of them pullover, and my dad runs right over to Lassie and picks it up to see how it was doing. Lassie was dead. My dad turns around with dead Lassie in his arms and to his amazement sees about 200 people in a park standing there staring at him. Obviously it was a family reunion ... all the kids were crying, the burgers were burning on the BBQ. He had just killed the family pet!
Man, he told me he had never felt as bad as he did that day.

I ran over a turtle with my FZR600 that put me into a nasty tankslapper at about 50 mph. I've just recently hit a rabbit with the SV. Both incidents were not fun at all.

Turtle? Now that is strange. Where the fock do you live? As for slugs...we get the banana variety in the Pacific NW. And yes, they are slippery as hell. Done the bird thing many times too...almost got an eagle a few months ago! That would have been ugly for both of us :doctor:

I'm in Wisconsin and I haven't seen many turtles on the road other than the one I ran over! One thing that is very common on the roads here is cow/ horse/ pig manure. Very slippery too.

Well, I was exploring roads in a rural neighborhood one night and when the last oncoming car passed me, I turned on my high beams as i crested on a hill just in enough time to see an armadillo in front. He froze in the road, looked at me, I hit him, he got scooped up in the chin fairing, and then he knocked me in the leg. I had a huge welt from it, but Im sure he lived.
The shell on those things is mighty tough, especially at 50+ mph on your unclothed shin.

Strangest thing Iv'e run over?
More like the only thing I've tried to run over.
Hyundai Excell on my GSXF 750.
Two identical Hyundais in front of me along the main drag doing about 40kph (Posted limit of 60kph) Iwas checking out a harlequin painted Subaru WRX. just before I looked away I was about 4 bike lengths from the car, when I looked back I was about 6 feet from the car which had to lock up the brakes in order not to hit the car in front of her who had decided to pull a last minute park without indicating :ranting:
I locked the front brake, didn't even get time to hit the back brake, smacked into the back of her car, got slung over the handle bars and landed to the left of the car. I remember thinking this isn't too bad before looking up and seeing my bike coming towards me "This is gonna Hurt"
Luckily the bike only hit the bitumen right on a sticker on the side fairing and was otherwise undamaged.
Me I repulled the ligaments from above my wrist, this injury I had just gotten over.
Got out readyto kick some ass but both cars were being driven by incredibally georgeous chicks so I assured them I was allright and we didn't need to call the cops and they were OK about it.
The funniest thing is it happened across the road from a pub and four drunks come over and picked up my bike before I had decided I wasn't too badly hurt. The chick I ran into says "I was trying not to run into the car in front of me and then you hit me up the ass". One of the drunks replied "DID YOU LIKE IT??" She glared at him and he quickly retreated back to the pub. Me, I started my bike put my helmet on and then realised what he meant and laughed in the safety of my own helmet.
Not quite as bizzarre as running over a turtle, but a strange incident none the less.
Important note:- no animals were hurt or raped during the makings of this accident :P

Hit a bird 2 weeks ago on th SV on the way up to the cottage. I am glad I got it in the shoulder and not the helmut though. Couldn't tell what kind of bird cause I was going too fast.
That same weekend as I started out for a ride from the cottage, I felt a big bug hit me where my jacket was opened. A few seconds later it stung me by my shoulder. Hurt like a bitch so I pulled over undid my jacket and the bugger flew away.
I always do up my jacket now!

Two birds, one in the foot and one in the chest. Both at speeds over 60mph.
A couple of dogs and a cat.
Bugs? millions
A few cars and trucks but no pedestrians or bicyclists, yet!
Other motorcycles? One.
Oh, I almost forgot.
I was heading up to Daytona on my naked SV650 at 05:30 in the morning in October and what appears in my headlight at 70mph? A complete car bumper skin. You know, the one about a foot high and is curved on the end. I hit the end and it was facing toward me. I though I was a goner. It hit my right front fork and brushed my leg on the way by. I didn't go down and I got off the expressway to check the bike in a street light. I didn't break my leg and there were no fluids leaking out of the bike so I went on my merry way.
Some other real good stories, but they need to told over beers.

I once hit a drive shaft that was laying in the middle of the lane...lengthwise (same direction as I am travelling, not across the road like a speed bump)! Not sure what it was off of but the dam thing had to be 6 ft long. It's a weird feeling when you're changing lanes at 5am its dark out and by the time you see what you're about to hit...ITS WAY TOO LATE! I happened to be on my CB 700 SC Nighthawk S at the time and it flattened my front tire when I hit it and also straddled the shaft meaning my front tire was on 1 side and rear on the other at about 50-55mph. So I'm counter steering like a mofo the shaft is kind of sliding with me. Tires are sqealing and I'm cussing, finally over and off of the shaft and calmly pull into a gas station.......all of this in maybe 100 yards max. After I came back to reality, I pushed the old Chickenhawk over and pump up the front tire again. Amazingly it knocked the breath out of the tire and didn't puncture it. Then I went on my happy little way.
Remind me to thank Mr. Honda for that big seat......It gave me plenty to hold on to when the old butt puckered up.

Reminds me of road work they were doing NoNo. They were repaving some of the lanes on the fwy and I didn't realize that one lane was about 4 inches HIGHER than the one I was in. I changed lanes and it was like going up a curb diagonally(sp). Fricken tank slapper for about 100 yards...then regained control. A few scratches on the rim, but no major damage. A few more gray hairs though!
Oh, they finally put in a law to WARN motorcyclists when they pull that shit. :ranting:

Fubar'd a pheasant last year and just missed a ROE deer, knowing a bit about the wild life and time of year i slowed right down and sure enough a couple of large bucks obviously scenting a good time came bowling accross the road. My mate was hit by a sparrow and in the same week a great big crow type thing . It was hard to tell as it was all over his leathers ,helmet and screen, best bit was i was following him so priding myself on my ability to laugh at others misfortune( only when I know they're not Injured) I nearly wet myself when he removed his lid and appeared to have had an early morning snack of raw ornithoid!

Went on a ride last year to Mena Arkansas and some guy on a Triumph (one of the new ones not sure which) sport bike hit a buzzard. The bird wieghed about 50 pounds I would say and had this massive 6ft+ wingspan............at 80mph...it wasn't pretty. He kept the bike up but it messed it up pretty good. Anyways we stopped for lunch, me and a buddy found a pen an paper, made sign and placed it on his bike. He didn't think the nickname "Buzzard Bait" was funny, but it stuck. :D
Not sure if hitting the buzzard and being called buzzard bait affected him mentally...but he went and bought a Ducati (duck) 996. Birds of a feather I suppose.........

A buddy of mine came within a few feet of running into a big black bear running down the moutain and across the road. That could have been a hairy situation. Only in the Ozarks. I think I'll bring my motorcycle with me when I hunt for deer. I see more deer while I'm on my bike than any other time I'm outside my house. I had a big buck chase after me one night. He was escorting two nice big does, again in the Ozarks of Arkansas.

Got a KH400 side panel square in the face at about 80mph some years ago, hurt like f**k, but stayed on, only by luck though.
Just recently I was following my mate, he hits a traffic cone that fell from the back of a van, I move over as far as possible to avoid all this and his back wheel kicks it up and drops it right under my front tyre, the resultant wobble scared the s**t out of me, and I was not alone in feeling that way judging by the look on the face of the driver of the Lexus I narrowly missed, (again only by luck, I was a spectator just like everyone else there).

A few years ago following a lorry on the A3 out of London its tarp. came undone, flew off and completely covered my car windscreen at 60mph - that was scary stuff but managed to remove it and the tangled ropes while other car drivers simply drove around me - some not even slowing down :(

Got the SV1000S last May, bike was a week old, hit a turkey  smashing the radiator and fan ($700 Damage).
Noise from the bike spooked the poor thing and it ran into the bike as I got on the gas.
Turkey guts all over me and the left side of the bike. :argh:
Cleaned it up as best as I could but when started the next day, smelled like thanks giving with all sorts of smoking turkey gut flakes falling off the hot stuff.
Refused to pay $300 for a fan and have been running ok without one.

Fan temp switch is set to 227F so doubt it would run much in any case.
Now that the WX is cooler, the temp stays around 200F, probably not enough for cooking but plenty hot for re-heating the left overs. :P

Nothing personal, but you sound like a wreck waiting to happen.
