Well I just picked it up today. And it starts to piss down just as I ride it out of the bike shop. This bike definitely need an after-market exhaust as it has no growl to it what-so-ever. Gotta start saving my pennies so I can get one as soon as micron, M4 or Two-Brothers come out with one. The seat cowl, undertray & performance air-filter will have to wait. Guess I will be riding it in all this weekend :niceone: Pitty we are just getting into our winter. :(

Congrats, man! By the way, you are to be commended on this site. It's pretty cool, if a little short on people and threads for now. I'm sure that'll change in no time.
Unfortunately, it'll be at least a year before I get my SV. I'm graduating college in August. Gotta make some money first. All you lucky gents and ladies enjoying your SV's, please keep us wannabes informed with tips, tricks and possible quirks to look out for, OK? Thanks, y'all!
ps: Sorry if the American lingo reads weird. I see most of y'all hail from other lands, which is part of the reason I joined this forum.

That Looks just like mine, funny that. Yes I got mine today as well, took it for a run along the Great Ocean road this afternoon did about 155 k's and loved every bit of it. Couldn't push too hard in the twisty stuff until the shine was of the tyres but once that was gone by shit it goes round corners a whole lot better than the bandit used to and it didn't do a bad job. Will get it out again on Sunday and do the same run again, it's my favourite bit of black top makes good use of the edge of the tyres. Only comment at this stage is the amount of primary drive gear noise, sounds a bit like the noise from race gear box with strait cut gears. I think the primary is strait cut gears so that probably explains it. Oh by the way fuel econ is better than a lot of other posts i have seen 52.7 MPG imp/ 43.9 MPG US or 18.6 k's to the liter. Will keep acurate figures and let you know how that goes.

pasystm or SpankMe, are you experiencing that "knock" at idle that some people are reporting?

im at 625 miles. i havent heard any unusual knocks or rattles. so far, nothing has me worried. but, as far as sound goes, i would like a little more bark from the pipes.

Hello,
Your SV is beautiful! Just saw the exact bike yesterday at local dealer on spring sale for $6999 U.S. and I'm in lust. B) I've been wresteling with the idea of returing to motorcycling after *25* years. My first and only motorcycle was a new Norton 850, black of course. I'm sold on Honda cars and had decided a new Honda Interceptor was the bike for me, also on sale for $8200.
Now I'm thinking the SV1000S outclasses the Interceptor and for less money. The ergos are not quite as comfortable for me on the SV1000S, but nothing really serious. Reliability is a key factor for me and I wonder if the SV would do about as well as the Interceptor? Generally, I'd be riding fairly conservatively with frequent high rev excursions in the lower gears, but no track time or racing.
Don't know if I will actually take the plunge, but if I had to choose today, it would be the SV. Also enjoyed reading posts from New Zealand and Austrailia, as I spent a couple of monthes there in 1980 and have always wanted to return. Thanks.

Hey Spankme
What's your verdict after a weekend of riding, or did it rain as usual in Auckland ?
Now have 1400km on mine and consider it pretty much run in. Put it on to Castrol Magnatec (semi-synthetic car oil with friction modifiers) on Sunday morning, did nearly 400km and guess what ? No clutch slip, in fact no discernable difference in clutch action between the Castrol and the mineral oil which I used during the break-in.
No untowards noises in the engine - it sounds just like the TLS' and TLR's which I've ridden.
My mate Blair has just sold his VTR and has an SV on order, due when the next shipment arrives around the end of this month hopefully. Called in to see him yesterday, just to tell him what a great ride he missed out on now that he doesn't have a bike (dontcha love mates like that ?) but allowed him to take mine for a quick spin. His initial comments were "Smooth, heaps of grunt" by comparison with the VTR. He's happy now knowing that he's not upgrading to a lemon.
Cheers

540kms on the weekend and it went bloody great. :niceone: A bit of rain on Saturday and some heavy mist when I went out Saturday night. Sunday was fine but my girlfriend wanted to go bloody shopping. I took her their on the bike, but I was chomping at the bit the whole time I was there. Finally got out for a good ride in the afternoon delivering t-shirt orders from my Kiwi Biker site.

Flange on.....they did indicate that any aftermarket pipes now would have to be signed off by the owner (if they fit)......something to do with the new legislation aimed at the boy racers and their noisy exhausts...apparently the revenue collectors have hit an unexpected jackpot with those on two wheels....so come warrant time best you hand on to your originals......

Reply to Shayne, i too rode the WTGN MC copper SV ( colour looks better in real life ) for 3 1/2 hrs
solid, great bike. Have ordered a blue bike with Two Brothers pipes, my only problem is that i'm 6ft 2 and i can't get my knees under the tank so the guys at WGTN MC think they can fit pegs off a new Buell ( which have a 2in drop ) at a fraction of the cost of the naked's pegs which are lower but more forward in position. Got a long months wait.

Bruce,

Just if you are interested you can hear what your bike is going to sound like with Two Bros pipes on it if you go to their web page and the TLs info they have a sound clip to listen to. Sounds great but loud. Check it out.
Cheers.

Well I did it! After 25 years I'm on another twin - this time a V! Went in for a short test ride and found my skills were, not suprisingly, rusty but was starting to have fun by the end. Second ride I was starting to wonder if it was too much bike for me. Third ride I found how enjoyable it was going semi normal speeds, so I brought it home. :D
My boys love riding it with me and since we all come home with smiles, my wife is warming to it. Wants more life insurance though.
Over 300 miles with nothing lose, leaking, or thumping. Really a great bike! My son said it best when he first saw a picture. "That's an awesome bike, it looks futurestique!

Got the 1000s in silver. In less than a week the fairly large dealer in Alabama got two more out on the floor. Love it!

Well its just over 2 weeks and I’ve done over 2,400 kms and I have to say I love this bike. The FI is smooth with no hiccups and it has plenty of power with an exhaust note that is reasonable for stock cans. I’m still trying to decide between flange or full system. For now I am waiting to see how much the Yoshimura 2-into-2 system is going to cost.
I’ve had it up to 240kph and it was still pulling like a schoolboy, but it is hard to find a long straight deserted road here in NZ. I am certainly not going to pass cage drivers at that speed even if they are in another lane.
I can’t wait to get it on the track, but I think I will clock up a few more K’s to gain more experience with the bike before I attack the Pukekohe racetrack. I am getting used to a taller, more powerful bike. It is just a case of treating it with respect.
As soon as we get a sunny weekend here in Auckland, I will get some photos of it with some coastal and landmark backdrops.

Hey Bruce, why wait a month, last time I was in there, they have them sitting on the floor in Christchurch (Sportzone Suzuki).
As for WTGN MC, they aren't exactly high on my list of desirable traders to do business with. I spent over $50k with them but they did the dirty on me and backed out of a deal. Unfortunately it was word of mouth so I had nothing on paper. I just walked away but I would never buy another thing from them.
Word of advice, if WTGN MC have offered you a deal you think is worth waiting for, get it in writing!
