Ever get the feeling that as bikers we are treated like some racial/religious minority by bloody cage drivers? That we are not treated as real road users. Ever get that comment that one day you will grow up and get serious and buy a car? That because we a small in number and sometimes divided (see <a href=”/index.php?act=ST&f=6&t=222”>Harley Etiquete</a> thread) that we can be pushed around by the bloody cage drivers in government, local councils and companies?
<table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="50%" align="center"> :ranting: </td><td width="50%" align="center"> :ranting: </td></tr></table>
Why am I pissed at cage drivers at the moment? (Well, more than usual) Just another example of the above. At work we have 8 bikers that park here. Not all at once because some are shift and others fair weather riders, but we can have up to 5 in at once. As long as I have been here we have been given the end parking spot where we can fit 5-6 bikes. Recently the parking situation at work is getting congested with double parking and people stealing others spots (I wont go into how psycho I get when a car steals our spot) so some butt dragger (my other expression for cage drivers) has in his infinite wisdom informed the bikers of the following.

“Motorcycles currently enjoy the use of car park 11. As of now this privilege must now cease, as this park has been allocated to someone to use.”

Improving the parking situation by changing a place where up to 5 people can park into a place where only 1 can? I replied as such, but I may as well smack my head against a brick wall. Typical fucking butt dragger attitude. 1 cage driver is worth more than 5 bikers.

You all know that I only ride bikes. Always have, always will. Doing so in a cage driver world is a lifestyle choice for me. A lifestyle I will defend to my dying breath.

That rots that they cannot see past their draggin' butts to see that you are part of the solution. :( Most of the places I've lived have given bikers preferential "parking" treatment at least. Lived in Honolulu HI and parking in Waikiki is horrible. All the parking attendants would let us park our bikes next to them for free!

At least not everyone down under is bent on driving these 4 ton monsters that are sucking our resources and space dry. :ranting: Damn Soccer Mom's.

Yeah, frustrating isn't it SpankMe........... Not quite the same situation, but when I was at Uni years ago, we used to get shoppers parking in the student car park. During breaks, four or five of us would bounce these illegally parked cars into imposible to drive out of locations or box them in with our own cars. Just a thought................. :D

Not so easy with a bike. Fuckers just push it over with their car. Had that happen to me twice.

I know it's been a while since this topic has been hit but I feel the need to join in and vent a little...

This is my first full season of riding. I've been boxed in twice by cars :ranting: If I park my bike in a space I usually leave a little room for another bike to pull up next to mine. There is more than enough room for 2 bikes per spot. Twice some inconsiderate moron has moved my bike onto or close to the line so they can SQWEEZE thier car in! Who in thier right mind would screw with someone's property like that? I ended up taking 3-5 min just trying to maneuver my bike in between them to get out. If it happens again I'm taking no prisoners :ryan: ! I'm looking into putting on a lock of some sort on the wheel, but my current bike was cheap so I never worried about it until now.

If a workplace is going to designate specific parking for cars they'd better have some for bikes. as this park has been allocated to someone to use.” Who is this someone? If they are going to start reserving spaces for employees are they going to reserve a space for EACH rider to park in? Like you said before it was 5 riders in one spot.

Just as an idea... Get a cinder block and leave it in the middle of the parking space upright. If they want to park there let them drag thier selfish asses out of thier cages and move it every morning. Some may think it's bit vindictive but it's a funny thought anyway.

Ok, I'm done now. I apologize but I needed to vent a bit. Thanks

My workplace has an underground secure carpark. It's circular, so there are loads of odd angles where cars can't fit.

I tried to get them to let us park bikes in these odd spaces, but they won't let us. The excuse is that we would damage the cars! Anyone entitled to a space in this carpark has a company car which they basically don't give a shit what happens to cos they're not picking up the repair bill - who is more likely to damage who? You can't get a company bike - not part of the policy.

At the same time there are one or two senior management allowed to permanently park their classic cars in there whilst the junior grades (i.e. those least able to pay) have to make their own arrangements where the only nearby public parking costs £7 per day. :ranting:

The most unfriendly bike(and car) place in the world has to be Manhattan. When I lived there I would park my bike in the street because the parking lots still wanted over $200/month for a bike. I'd park in a legal spot on the street and come back and find it on the sidewalk with a ticket, as some asshole had moved it to steal my spot. Also, everyone there parks by ear, all the cars in Manhattan are beat up looking, so they would just back up until they knocked your bike over. Let me tell you, there is nothing as ugly as the bottom of a bike(when it's yours!). So many of the bikes you see there are street victims of the parking costs and look like shit. The best bike I ever had in the city was a used 250cc enduro. Thin enough to get between traffic, fast enough to outrun the taxis off the lights, and enough suspension to soak up most of the potholes. Also, you didn't cry when you came back and it was on its side, light enough to pick up easily. Took a beating though on turnsignals and mirrors. Also the cab drivers think they're kamikazi pilots, most are from countries where the only vehicle they ever drove was a camel or an elephant and have no idea as to the rules of the road. Generally one of their nationality will take the driving test for half of them to get the license. I work in the Bronx now, so I worry more about it disapearing. We have a limited parking area outside the courthouse where I work. When I started in this building in 1990, I was the only bike, now on a good day there can be 10-12 so parking is getting tough, we're spreading out on the sidewalk. So far no tickets, but they're now $105.USD so I sure don't want one. :(

I have to say I feel this way about some bikers at work. Luckily we have front row parking at work. Enough for 20+ bikes I would say, that is if you know how to park the damn thing. We have several HARLEY riders and a couple of Guzzi and Duc riders. Harley etiquette and elitist Italian machismo at its finest. In our parking area there are 2 possible entrances. The front ent requires that you stop, take of yoru gloves fumble thru your tank bag and use your swipe card to enter the lot. The other ent has a shorter lift arm you can go around and then poke you bike between 2 poles in a pedestrain walkway. Never fails, there is always some Harley or Italian elitist asshole who parks in between the poles. It's an obvious case of laziness. The worst offender is the guy on the Guzzi. All of the riders on my floor have left this guy notes etc and I have even MOVED his bike. Jerkoff asshole middle aged mid-life crisis middle manager don't park in the middle of the poles.

Cage drivers. It's a given that ONLY driving a car lowers your IQ by 50-75 points leaving most people without the common sense to poor piss out of a boot even if the instructions are written on the bottom. On several occassions I have found myself tweaking peoples mirrors, maybe even punching them out like the time I came out to find a big ding in my tank left by the asshole in the 4x4 Ford pickup who decided that the other half of my space was his. I punched out his mirror, and window and smashed his door a few times. I aslo had a neighbor, who happened to be a cop, pulled into the space I had my bike in one night, hitting my bike with his personal vehicle and causing almost $1000 USD in damage to my bike. He denied that he had done it, but after inspecting his car and finding white paint and a piece of my bike cover in a hole in his bumper I took it upon myself smash all of his glass and poured a 3 gallon can of MEK (Methylethylkeytone.....used to clean and degrease parts) all over his car the night I moved out of those apartments.

Unfortuately it is a cage world. I say educate them to the fact that we have as many rights as they do every chance you get. Shooting most of them should be legal....but thats in a perfect world.

Wow, that should read :ryan: NoNoRicky666 :ryan:

I have taken several mirrors out but need serious provoking to do so, besides the daft cage drivers were not using them at the time so they won't miss them. The excuse that they will make life harder for the next biker doesn't cut it with me - perhaps I was the next biker? How many times will a cage driver have their mirrors taken out before they realise deliberately swerving into our path to stop our progress is dangerous to life and limb and their pocket.

I own only three pairs of footwear. A pair of thongs - double plugs thanks you very much; A pair of riding boots; And a pair of elastic sided steel caps for work. Of course I have a choice of two when I mount my bike. Since I just about live in my steelcaps and haven't owned a pair of runners for about five years, I sometimes commute with the steel caps on. The next car that does a lane change without looking or indicating, that compromises my safety is going to get a nice dent in their door. Have run it through my mind a few times and if it goes to court I can say I was hit and put my foot out as a natural defense instinct. I made this decision about ten months ago when a motorist thought my time was up and tried to kill me by accident, as luck would have it I haven't had the opportunity to kick a door in since, but I can't wait to give it a go.

I didn't see the bike officer, but I heard a bloody great bang when he kicked my door in. hehehehehehe

Heheheheh - been there, used the toe-slider.

White van man decided it would be quicker for him to use the bus lane (where I'm allowed and he's not) so he starts to move to his left. I put my thumb on the horn - still he keeps moving - I put my boot down his door and wing - he stops moving. Works for me!

busted the side mirror on a chevy cavalier with the old heel & toe method. How can you not notice a v-twin with race cans right next to your car when you have your windows down !!! stupid people should be shot !
