Hey all,

My brother just bought an '04 SV650S and we are going to do an oil change.

I looked in the 650 forum for discussions on oil filters but came up empty handed.

Does anyone know if the STP SMO-18 also fits the SV650S?

Thanks in advanced!

This web page says YES.

The 650 and 1000 share the same stock filter. It seems reasonable that if you have found a good sub for the 1000 that it could aslo be used on the 650.

Over here in UK we have to have official Suzuki servicing, otherwise we have no warranty. Is that the case where you are? In which case if you do home servicing or get it serviced elsewhere then Suzuki can refuse your warranty anytime they like!

smo-18 filters work fine. change your oil n filter often, 3k miles is a good interval. that will get the dirt out of there. as for warranty issues, there are none regarding who does your service, particularily oil n filter. Important to keep reciepts and log all details. Suzuki Motor Corp will not void your warranty. your dealer wants your service business (dollars) and that is why you hear that nonsense. Warranty is between you and SMC. the dealer is just their rep. find a new dealer. give him your business (dollars).

Over here in the land of the free we can do our own. We have to keep all receipts and log it in our o/m's. If the bike fails in some way the MGF has to be able to prove that the modification actually caused the problem. Hard to do!!

I have done all my services on my SV1000S and I am sure my brother will do all his.

Thanks for all your help!
