Is anybody planning on doing any touring with their SV? I'd like to do some light touring myself. No more than 400mi per day, perhaps. I like to stop and smell the daisies :P Any mods ya'll can suggest would be appreciated!

Hey fella's,

I have read in other people's posts that the following can be done.

1# Fit the top tripple clamp from the naked model, including the bolt on type motorcross bars. (ugly, hopefully someone manufactures a raised set of clip ons)

2# Fit the pegs from the naked bike (they are slightly lower)

3# Fit the pegs from a Buell (not sure of the model) which are cheaper than the Suzuki items as well as being located slightly further back and lower.

I am interested in hearing of the success of these mods, as I have come from a 96 GSXF750 which was quite a comfortable sports-tourer.

Good Luck
Tony.

In the US, parts are not yet available for the naked SV1000. Although they can be looked up on US Suzuki's dealer-only web based parts fiche, the parts cannot be ordered and no pricing is available yet (the web site says "invalid part number").
The triple clamp for the naked will not fit the SVS because it has the speedometer mount built in. I plan to drill my SVS triple clamp to accept bar mounts. Other options are Heli clip-ons or www.cliponrisers.com
What Buell model footrests will fit the SVS? Did somebody actually do this or just guessing?

Steve,
The mods I mentioned were read somewhere on this site and I can't quite remember the Buell model. I think it was a lightening bolt or some such. I looked at modifying the triple clamp but wondered if it might need some gusseting underneath. I think the person who wrote of the Buell pegs hadn't carried out the mod but had sized it up, but I can't be sure. How long has the SV1000S been out in the states? I got mine last Thursday and the dealer reckons it was the first one sold in Queensland ( I live in Australia). He claimed we were only getting the "S" model down under so I guess getting naked parts may prove to be difficult. I like the idea of higher clip-ons, thanks for the link.

I'm liking these ideas, fellers! For a while there I thought this subject wasn't going anywhere. Those Buell foot pegs are definitely something I would not have thought of.

Shneegz,
Someone put me onto this link www.cliponrisers.com . Check it out as it is very re-assuring. They're in your part of the world too.
It looks like a well thought out product and is very cost effective.
Tony.

That's a good one. Looks pretty easy to do, too. Thanks!

Has anyone got any experience with using these clipon bars? My aching wrists and numb palms need to know.

funny, but i don't find the stock clip ons to be too aggressive to tour with, i rather like them...

So i have the naked, with renthals fitted, looked into having a hard luggage setup (givi) without top box (no goer), and am planing to do a few shows up and down and around the place in the UK, shepton mallet (what was SWCC), rock & blues in derby, bulldog bash (kent) , wozzy nr newark on trent, and a few litle ones dotted around the country, I have come from the unfaired GSX750X 99' S (retro/inazuma) and went 2 up to assen 2002/2003 (tt), that was really comfortable.
