I sent an e-mail to SW Motech http://www.mo-tech.de/ . This is the German company that makes the centerstand for the SV650. They replied promptly and stated that they won't be making a centerstand for the SV1000. Let's hope some other company steps up to the plate.

Would be interested in any info found on this subject. I have a centre-stand on my GSXF750, and use it for maintenance quite regularly. Once you've had one they are hard to do without.

Although having a centre stand has a few advantages there are many good reasons not to have one as well:

1. Less weight to interfere with acceleration and steering
2. One less item to oil and grease
3. One less item to clean (especially being under the bike where things get dirty real quick)
4. One less item to repair if it breaks
5. One less item to pay for when buying the bike
6. Smarter looking bike with cleaner lines

I use a centre-stand with silver bobbins screwed into the rear of the swing-arm (M8 bolts) to take lugs in my paddock stand. Works well and I get all of the above benefits.

I don't think centerstands belong on sport bikes. IMO the on for the 650 looks awful and destroys the general lines. I use a rear stand for maintinence, as the only place I'd want to raise the rear wheel is at home anyway. Takes maybe 30 seconds to use and stays in the garage at all other times.

In my opinion, garage stands are adequate if you never travel far from home. But if you're planning an extended trip, its nice to have a centerstand if only to help with oiling the chain. Just my opinion.

Does anyone have experience with the DL or SV650 center stand possibly modified to fit the SV1000 naked?

And one more Ground clearance there is little or no room to to fit it neat onto this bike.

I bought an 8mm stainless steel bolt (with nut) for the swingarm. As its only 3cm long and barely noticeable, I never remove it. I simply use my standard lightweight Toyota car jack. Works perfectly, and cost me .33 cents (Canadian funny money) in total! If you need to hoist the bike up when you're not home, everybody and their uncle has a standard car jack.

Only caution is to lift the bike no more than a few millimetres off the ground, thus as to not put too much strain on the side stand.

At home, I use a "Pit Bull" paddock stand. On the road, I use a "quick stand" to lube the chain. It fits under the seat and works great to get the back wheel off the ground for routine maint on the road.

I had the Moto Tech centerstand on my 650 and it never got in the way and was great. I heard there was one being made for the 1000 and it weighed over 10lbs and nobody cared for it. I forgot who made it but I don't think it caught on.

Someone makes a portable sidestand that attaches on the right side. When it's fitted, the two sidestands become a centerstand for oiling. But I can't find it on the Web. Anyone know?
