The 'knock'....the final thread!

Hey Guys,
I talked to my local Suzuki dealer in Lexington, Kentucky today and they thought that my engine knock was "normal" and considering how the TL1000 rattled so loudly, that I should be thankful for what I've got. I know I can't strangle them legally, but can I piss in their beer? Anyway, they won't commit to any such fix unless Suzuki authorizes a recall. Also, I just got my seat cowl, rear tire hugger, undertail and copper windscreen in theis week and I'm on a tear here in the bluegrass state.

Thanks,
John

I know all bikes have the little sisturbances but noone wants their new baby to be making all that noise. My 93 Seca has a clutch rattle like no other when its cold and even if you hold in the clutch it finds someother noises to make.

My sympathy goes out to all who have a new bike that rattles or knocks away. I will be among you in the fall so lets hope that some kind of resolution is made by then.

Edit = AndyW 25/09/2004:
Unfortunately this thread was recently merged with two other 'knock' threads after a site 'house-keeping' session:
Page1/Post1 "On a scale of 1 to 10. How loud would you say your knocking & Bearing noise is? Also how annoying? Trying to get an overall picture of this noise problem." by bobbydee 04/12/2003......the source of the Poll that appears on each page now.
Page1/Post11 "Knock knock - not the usual guff" by Crank 09/05/2004.....first evidence that the knock is an issue and start of the survey that I'm continuing now.
Page9/Post135...original start of The 'knock' - the final thread by AndyW 04/06/2004

On a scale of 1 to 10. How loud would you say your knocking & Bearing noise is? Also how annoying?

Trying to get an overall picture of this noise problem. Please vote. Cheers

I voted "Aint worth a mention".

Ok theres some rattle from the clutch. Its always been there and has not got any worse. Main issues are for most minor - theres one or two who have had bad apples, but everyone else is getting on ok.

The SV is a fine bike.

Cheers

It is a problem that Suzuki have not mentioned.

My clutch does rattle at tick-over. Only slightly. I have done well over 6000 miles.

Most Suzuki bikes have faults the same as the SV650. loose cam-chain tensioners. etc. etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

I beleive this noise that poeple are experiencing is due gear chatter and not the clutch.

When the clutch lever is out the springs are pushing all the clutch plates together so how can they rattle.

If the gearbox is in neutral and the lever is out drive is being transmitted into the gearbox, because there is no gear engaged there and the twin has a pulsation at idle the gears rattle.

Get into a deisel 4wd and try this you will think the gearbox is trying to get out!

I don't know if it means anything but it seems that sv1000 with a build date,at least the naked model, doesn't have the issues of the ones manuf.before.At least that is what I have deduced from what I have read and heard. As always IMHO.Ride safe.......................Les

Question "The infamous knock"

Forgive me for starting this thread again but I have GOT to know.

I'm picking up my SV1000S tomorrow and I will NOT buy something that has major problems right off the showroom floor.

I waded through 50 pages of posts regarding this with no solutions.

For what it's worth mine will be a 2003-S that was in the crate at the dealer.

Just looking for the final word on this subject.

Thanks in advance.

TT

Okay Tom, you looked thru over fifty posts from countless members and no one had a problem right? There's your answer my man!

I had the same concerns as you before I bought my SV but there is not one case of failure. Buy the bike and ride the piss out of it and welcome to the site Tom

Brain, road closed?
