Hope it worked as it was supposed to. (I'm sure it did.)

And I helped build one of the worlds smallest engines...piston was only .094" (2.38mm) in diameter
Stuff like that's always fascinated me, ever since I played with my first COX airplane. What kind of ignition system did that thing have? Can't imagine a sparkplug that small.

I'm going out on a limb here and going to guess that it is a "glow" engine without an actual spark plaug, just a hot tip glow plug (which are easy to make really small).

C'mon, it sounds like it was in the past, tell us more. Was it used for high volume power generation?

It was made right around 1998, so it's pretty recent.
I have built spaceflight packages that weren't scheduled to fly until 3 to 4 years later.

This engine was developed to use a glow plug, and turn some astronomical RPMs.
My shop built the top end (cylinder, piston, head) while another shop built the lower end. Just so happens I knew the guy who built the lower end, through another aquaintance of mine.

Most of the info is on a need to know basis, and what they will commonly do is break up the parts to be manufactured. This way, no one can actually assemble a "working" product. I recognized what the parts were, because the prints didn't state it was an "Engine"...But after years of fooling with 2 cycle engines, I knew what it was.

What actually happened after the job left the shop is beyond me.

Now that is impressive!

Craig, you are right, glow engines use the little heater when you are trying to start them. Instead of a "sparking" they simply "glow" hot and ignite the fuel that way. Most all small RC type engines are glow engines. I am trying to find the diesel engine that I saw online, I-6 with 15mm pistons.

Did anyone notice how we totally bastardized this thread?

All I know is that it may have been used for some kind of miniature recon device, and that's all I know....

Here's a pic of one of my "little" toys....
Engine displaces 3.5 cc's
Runs 65% Nitromethane, 17% methanol, and the rest is a semi/castor oil mix.
Good for 2+ HP at around 32,000 rpms....
Pushes a 4lb model boat at speeds of over 50 mph...

Now what were we talking about? OH YEAH..Something about an engine knock?

I sense a conspiracy of silence here. Surely you are safe amongst friends on this forum ?

2bhp from 3.5cc = .57bhp per cc = 570 bhp from an SV engine. Perhaps you should forsake your silence and bottle this product.

Cheers
