Letter to Suzuki GB

Andy

What an outstanding and incredibly well written letter!

Concise, pointed and yet still gives the gentlemen room to "save face", by doing the right thing.

Have you thought about sending this letter to the "Watch Dog" show? In the US we have "60 Minutes". And they love this kinda stuff.

Once again, spot on, give yourself a pat on the back, and if you're ever in Southern Italy, the beer and wine is on me!

the vibes you experience going throught the revs is...well how can i put it gently....a sign you're riding a bloody v-twin! the knock is only apparent at idle, ie when you've stopped and don't twist the throttle. the knock sounds like like little pygmies playing their bongos inside your engine. if you get off your bike, you should still hear the knocking sound through your exhausts. and try this, at idle, put your bike in first gear, slowly release the clutch so the engine bites on the clutch. the knock (if you have it) will stop. it is very noticeable if you have the knock. i can't believe people 'confuse' the clutch noise for the knock noise. i'm not being funny but they are 2 quite different sounds. i'm not having a go painterman, but really, if you have the knock, you'll know it.

ps, who's your dealer in nottingham?

I owned an SV650 with twin renegades for my SV1000 so believe me I know all about V twin vibes!! I nearly bought a ZX6R but was put off by the 'buzziness' of it after riding my SV so that's why I bought the SV1000.

The vibration I get is severe, but only between 2000 - 4000 RPM. It's not the usual thump thump of a twin, but feels more like the engine is attached to the frame with pieces of string.

I bought my bike from CMC, who are apparently about to become the Suzuki franchise dealer in Nottingham. I always took my SV650 to Pidcocks in Derby and after the after sales 'service' I've received at CMC I will probably continue with Pidcocks.

sorry painterman, you're experience speaks volumes...i'll eat my cap!!

if you're getting bad vibes, get it checked out. it might be something simple, like throttle sync.
where do you ride? i'm in leicester and i use the nottingham melton road for a blast, avoiding speed cameras..

I have the knock and yes it does go when I do this. What I don't understand is why it goes.If the main bearing are wrongly sized, then this knock, rumble whatever would be constantly there !

Melton Road is probably my favourite road ever! It has everything a man needs.....straights, corners, hills, pubs.......heaven

It's a shame they're introducing speed limits on some stretches though

Have you tried the road that goes from the Melton to Rempstone as well? I think it's the A6006. Or the road from Melton to Market Harborough? Both great roads.

Cheers

Graham

Not necessarily, as you load it up in gear the tension taken up by the chain will help to seat the crank in place. (Assuming it's the sprocket end thats the problem and not the clutch end which is on the right hand side of the bike as you sit on it).

yes, the a6006 is a great road. when go through a few villages from nottingham, the road turns a strong left, then a strong right and then there's lovely long road which follows the hill. i can't resist going the full 60 mph speed limit along there. from where i live, the great roads are behind barrow upon soar, wymeswold and seagrave, up to melton and rempstone and then oakham. have you ridden the 2 hills behind oakham from nottingham? and oakham don't have traffic cops anymore. the hills are between oakham and the a47. what colour sv have you got and i'll keep an eye out!

I've thought about writing the magazines, esp. Motorcycle Online. Hmmm.

As I posted earlier, I wrote Suzuki Japan, US and UK, and Marvin Roloff US Customer Service Mgr called me. Upshot is that a Suzuki rep will be in my area in a few weeks and will look at my engine. I'm glad to see that UK dealers are being straight with you. I think that will help us here in the US.

OK, my story....

I'm an auto tech so I know some about chasing noises. Mine started about 400 miles and very faint. Noticed it more after the first service. I do my own service, used Maxim 10w40 and a HF138 oil filter. It only does it hot (190+ degrees), only notice it between idle and 2500 rpm, it gets swallowed up in the other normal noises after that. I pick it up riding, both coasting to a stop in that rpm range, or lightly accelerating in that rpm range(light load). It has the normal clutch noises that go away when you pull in the lever, so I know it's in the motor. Using a stethoscope with a rubber hose on it, I can pick up the noise in both cylinders and towards the bottom end of the motor. I will email engine # as soon as I figure out how to. Can anyone post on the forum any Suzuki related info (dealer tsb) so I can have some ammo to go after the fix? Thanks, Jon

andy mate

do you post early before your wife and kids break lose?!! apparently my bike is fully re-assembled with new bearings in place. however, the guy who told me today said he wanted their mechanic to give them the all clear before they give it back. fair enough. it will have taken the dealer 4 weeks exactly to do the job.. not bad when you consider suzuki was dragging their heels with new bearings and the dealer had other customers to consider. i'll post tuesday night to let everyone know how it sounds.
