My turbo SV1000 project...

Hello Everyone. I am seriously considering installing a turbocharger on my SV. The bike is a 1000 and was given single turbo off of bi -turbo Audi 2.7l. I have a tiny bit of experience with installing turbos. I installed a T-70 on my 98 Expedition in the rear above the axle. Theres pics on myspace. umbrobryan there too. That project turned out really good. Now back to the bike. This turbo has a 1.75" inlet and a 2.0" outlet. Do you think you could charge the stock airbox if you made a charge plate and removed the snorkle. I called out to Schnitz Racing in decatur and they said with a power comander and the add-on ignition module they could to dial it in. So thats the air and maybe fuel if Schnitz can do there thing. I would chop the exhaust in the back and run it straight forward. Y the two together and hang the turbo on the right side with compressor outlet just forward of the radiator and turn down the exhaust and leave it be. You will probably get the weight back from adding the turbo by taking the rest of the exhaust out. I would tap into the oil cooler and use tiny electric oil pump availible at mrturbo.com and run the oil back in a tapped hole. Place a boost gauge somewhere. Get a blow off valve. i was thinking of pushing 5 psi. i guess im looking for some honest opinions because im gonna be starting this project this weekend

The stock airbox is definitely strong enough for at least 6-9lbs of boost. you really need the exhaust headers to be the same length to the turbo for it to work at peak performance. If you have not thought about it already you may want to relocate the crank case breather, and get a different turbine. but it all should work.
Good Luck.

If I was going to that much trouble, I'd just biff the factory airbox and make a Y from alloy mandrel bent tubing, and connect to the throttle bodies with some big silicon hoses like on a ricer etc

Called Jason at Calisuperbikes today and he said that their test sv was crashed but it did make 200 hp and 135 torque. He said hes having problems uploading pictures due to a new computer and new internet. Sounds kinda fishy but well see how things turn out. He also said this was on the stock motor, which ive heard from many people, that the rods go boom after 140hp. Guess well have to wait and see
