Used and abused.

The young 17 year old lad who works for us got himself a brand spanking new honda 125 a few months ago.

He took his bike test and passed somehow before crashing it into a tree on the way home from the test centre, bending a few plastic bits, handle bars, mirror etc.

At 4000 miles his exhaust pipe which is all one unit broke, ( how do you brake an exhaust pipe ??? ) replaced under warrenty. also he burnt out his clutch but still rode it for 100 miles at full throttle/revs/15 mph !!!!!! apparently the oil that came out looked very dirty with most of his clutch in it.

That cost him about £250 in parts labour etc.

now at 5000 miles hes just taken it in for a service to find his rear tyre, chain and sprockets and rear brake pads are totally shot, another £3oo + bill.

He managed to get through two engines in one year on his brand new moped before he got the honda as he ran it out of two stroke oil the first time and just burnt the next one out somehow.

Should i let him have a go on one of my bikes ....

Let him go on the rusty sv, he could probably find out which bits will break next.

Buy him a bicycle with training wheels

He is clearly not a motorcyclist

They have laws over there limiting the engine displacement for young / inexperienced riders, right? In this country, he'd buy a literbike and be dead by now.

Yes, they're quite hard, you start off with a 50cc at 16, go on to a 33 bhp bike and have to take a whole load of tests etc, too complicated for me to understand, before you can ride a proper bike.

In my day you just turned up with £17.50 and if you could read a number plate at 25 yards/meters you'd passed.

the trouble is he does wheelies, stoppies, burnouts, skids etc everywhere and rides in the rain. I keep telling him to check his tyre pressures, lube the chain, make sure theres play in the clutch cable, etc to which he says..." I'll do it at the weekend ", then he goes out and gets pissed and forgets.

It was thestoppies that bust the exhaust I think, keep banging down the rear end broke the baffles loose inside but yhere a sealed pipe so you can't get at them to re weld them up.

RIP poor wee honda.

How anyone could be so disrespectful & inflict such carnage is beyond me, it's just wrong on so many levels.

It would be like disrespecting your pet sheep, you just don't cos it's not right !

You've got it in one. The trouble with the "yoof" of today is exactly that!

I will never hire another gen now teenager, unless they can categorically prove to me that they can think of anybody else other than themselves for anything longer than a couple of minutes.

Pete I wouldn't let him within 2 yards of your pride and joys (not even the rusty one that you don't love any more! ), because clearly he is not a responsible adult (or even one that would be able to pay you out if he broke it).

In his defense, I don't think I became a responsible adult until I was 30 and had two kids...

Send him my way - could do with a couple of insurance jobs
Actually he seems just like I was at that age
so I reckon he's got a great biking future ahead of him - EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT

I was only joking, I wouldn't let him near either of my bikes, I still love my SV HQ, indeed I rode her hard today, just seperating my ridning into comfy cruising and silly fast styles on the different bikes.

I still haven't become a sensible adult even though I'm now in my 50's

Mr Chips, I do lots of disrespectful things to my sheep, she loves it

Just ask yourself: Would I let him ride one of my favorite sheep? Then all will become clear.

Good gawrsh!

He has cracked the infinite-order polynomial (or at least somehow created some analog synthesis of it that was "close enough") and managed to perpetually re-circulate the feild coil current from the alluminum strips in the pickle jar full of brine back into itself, causing the "Mobius Strip" of electron flow required to slip-in and manupulate the time continium!

Pete Rose has completed his time machine before me!

He done gone back to 1977,
brought back 1977 Pete Rose,
and gave himself a job in a chip shop!

Well done Pete Rose!

Well done!

I truely wasn't like that at 17, I swear. Unbelievably, I rode my first bike, a TS250 Suzuki around for a year and a half and 17,000 miles NEVER thrashing it, I used to " cruise " about at 55mph, it's top speed was only 75, and it was polished and cleaned every single day. I was also very good at doing maintainance etc obviously I was still learning but that bike was as good as new when I sold it...so was the Guzzi til I rode it into the side of a volvo at 95 mph

I was also shit scared of women, well behaved and the sort of boy you'd be happy for your daughter to go out with.

Well done Pete Rose!

Well done!
