I've gone another 20miles once the light comes on. I don't like pushing it, but usually by accident I continually push the distance after the light comes on. I wouldn't think much more than 20 miles. I am not for sure but assuming the light comes on with .75 gallons left, so 20-30 miles would be max. Best thing, find a station when the light comes on.

I have only seen mine come on a couple of times, so I wonder how it is supposed to operate. Mine comes on solid first, then after more fuel is burned it starts flashing, which seems backwards. I remember the old bikes flashing then going solid.
Someone have the operators manual handy? what are the remaining capacities for the low fuel lights? I just finished welding up the tank for the endurance race, the thing holds 7.3 gallons of fuel, I am counting on that getting us through 1 hour 20 minute sessions. -Kurt

Kurt, the light is supposed to go solid when you have 1.1 gallons left. I could not find the amount of fluid left when it begins to flash. Probably in the user manual which I do not have handy right now.
Unless you have modified the bottom of the tank, I would say that should remain the same.

Hi Kurt,
In metric numbers the tank contains 17liters at full. Light starts to come on with 4.4liters remaining. So you can really ride for some time after you see the light for the first time. Have noticed the same as you with the light first being solid then start flashing before going back to solid. For highspeed-highway touring this summer I had no problem riding 250-270km between tank stops. Asfor your endurance race, I think you will get through 1hr 20 min sessions and good luck - TT

It isn't suppose to flash. Sometimes my light will come on for a few seconds and then go out for a while when it first comes on because it is border line 1.1 gallons. But it is pretty consistant with mileage.
now my 00 650 would come on at .9 gallons blinking, then at .5 gallons it would come on and stay on. Matt |

In Canada, with premium (always use premium 92 octane)
Once I did 208 km before light went on and I've carried on another 50km before filling up, then I was running on fumes ' cause I put 16.7 liters!!! (was on highway average speed was 145km/h I try to fill up every 200km, I just don't want to get stuck on side of road with a empty tank! !!

Tank Light
I had a bit of a problem with my new bike last year..After a while the light that indicate less fuel would not come on and i went dry once. After consulting with my dealer they had to get a new part from Japan. So i had to drive on the tripcounter and my general feeling for 3 months.
.I went dry once more, that was in a large tunnel called Svartdalstunnelen in Oslo..after i had called the the tunnel auttoritys on a sos phone there came an sos truck after 4 minutes and filled my bike up with gasoline totaly free of charge.. That was cool....but now it works as it is supposed to. |

my old bike was a 2002 zx6r, no fuel light and no indicator, the "reserve" switch was useless, the bike would instantly cut out, I`d have to indicate, pull over, and then turn on the reserve before starting it up again and riding off.
A fuel light seems like an act of genius when you`ve had a kawasaki piece of crap. |

Trust me on this one it will never flash
it comes on solid and then after a while things go very quiet . It has only happened the once, my advice is when the fuel light comes on you've got about 30 miles left in the tank and it's time to start looking for somewhere to fill up.

I am continually amazed at the resourcefulness of the members of this list. I am trying to add a fuel cell for long distance rides here in the Western US but I didn't consider expanding the Suzuki tank. How did you expand the tank - height or width or both? Do you have any pics? |

If there is any flashing, it is usually before it goes solid on. I usually attribute it to sloshing in the bottom of the tank before she really gets low enough to read low.

My SV 650's would flash, then come on solid. I don't know why Suzuki didn't do the same with the 1K. Kind of stupid, if you ask me.
