I just upgraded from a gen1 650 to a 05 1ks. Im pretty excited to start messing around with it but is there anything that should be done right away before i get too crazy with it? Also anybody have recommendations where to buy upgrades for performance as well as lower fairings?

Thanks

Welcome to the site and congrats on getting an SV1000S!

There are a few things that commonly happen to the SV1Ks. The flywheel magnets can work their way loose and the primary drive gear can work its way loose. These issues are certainly worth taking off both case covers and checking things out. Here are some threads worth looking at regarding these issues:

https://www.sv-portal.com/forums/4-s...hlight=magnets

https://www.sv-portal.com/forums/5-t...-assembly.html

The "green connector" has been known to get corroded and cause shorting out of the ignition causing total power loss. Here is one of many threads containing information on this issue: https://www.sv-portal.com/forums/4-s...tor-issue.html

The throttle position sensor is often set wrong from the factory on our bikes which causes throttle jerkiness at low speeds/partial throttle openings. Here is a thread about it: https://www.sv-portal.com/forums/5-t...ification.html

Unfortunately, since the SV1000 has been out of production for several years, there isn't much new stock left out there. eBay and the online trading section of this site will probably be your best bets in finding stuff like Power Commanders, bodywork, etc.

But, if you are feeling industrious, our site mad scientist schmidt314 has a wild way to increase the power of our bikes. Here's his thread about it: https://www.sv-portal.com/forums/5-t...gear-sets.html

Also, you can balance your own throttle bodies with a homemade tool in post #33 of this thread: https://www.sv-portal.com/forums/5-t...-sync-how.html

I'm curious about the fork springs. Progressive doesn't list any springs for the SV1000. How'd you know what to get?

Awesome guys. Thanks for the help. I know that dhgate has full body kits for like$400-500. Which don’t look too bad. Im pretty solid on not needing a gear indicator i think. Though i do need to probably upgrade the shock and for springs n oil.
