SV1000: A bike build from all my spare boxes of crap

I have a fair bit of spare SV stuff lying around in my garage. I recently acquired a frame when I went to purchase a damaged motor for spare parts. I got an offer I could not refuse that included a few other parts and an untitled frame. I was pretty leery about a frame without a title so I contacted someone I know and was able to get the titled owners information. Well after a bit of mail and paper work it appears I have a title now. Hmm, what should I do with it...? Well looking through all my spares I began to realize that I might have enough parts laying around to actually build a complete bike. The main things I needed from my quick inventory would be a fuel pump, and a subframe. Thanks to someone here in the forum we struck up a good deal and I got those parts.

Lots of the parts might not be pretty, but I hope to put together a really fast engined street machine to go thrash on. I want to try use what I have, trade, or barter for parts to keep the cost down. Lets see what happens, and I hope all you reading this might have a few bit I need at some point so keep looking as I hope to post here and in the wanted section for stuff I am going to need.

Here is how it all started

The Engine

How should I piece a motor together? Hmm, i have this 06 DL1000 motor I acquired a couple of years ago on the cheap from a friend of mine. he bought the bike crashed to part out. The motor had hit something and broke a chink out of the front cylinder head. I figured I might be able to use this for parts some day if needed.

I stripped the DL motor down, converted all the DL bits to SV bits to bring it upto SV standards. This included SV rods from another motor, an SV transmission from a motor that had blown out cases from a chain breaking and then a spare 100mm big compression piston and cylinder kit, ported heads and a set of big ol cams. I have lots of spare big end rod bearing, and main bearings so it got fresh bearings and all new seals, I don't want any leaks. This thing should rip, I am absolutely on edge of pump gas usage, so lets hope for the best.

The Chassis

Stated with the frame. Well, I have a frame, now I need to find a bunch of stuff to bolt to it. I have a swingarm and linkage from an 03 S model. It is chewed up from tossing a chain. Same bike that was mentioned in the previous post that the motor had a hole in it but I used the tranny. I used a Hayabusa swing arm shaft I had left over from a Turbo ZRX1200 project I worked on and converted it over to a monoshock set up with a Hayabusa swing arm, and what do you know, this was in a box of stuff too. I have spare Penske 3 way adjustable shock as a spare for the race bike so that went in with an Ohlins shock spring a friend gave me that came off his Ducati. I have a set of triple clamps from my commuter bike that were on it when I got, but the are bent. I bent them back, go them all aligned, and it looks like they will work. I slid my set of stock 06 SV1000 forks that were removed from my race bike project. I spruced them up with the right springs and good oil.

The Chassis II

I dug out a spare set of wheels, a second set I usually keep as spares with good tires for the commuter bike I have, just in case I need one quick in a pinch. I used a brand new set of brake calipers I had taken off my race bike project. they still had new factory brake lines attached, so i figured I will use those for now. I pulled out a spare Brembo master cylinder form the race spares I have and fitted that up too. Then I tossed the motor in. A mix of SV, DL and Hayabusa engine mounting bolts and such, and the motor went in.
This is where I am at as of today. More progress to come.

Ahhh... You're bringing back memories.
Which ECU and electrical system are you going to use?

I have an 03 harness and ECU, but will be using 05 type throttle bodies.
It will have a yellow tank with a big dent in it, a dark blue metallic front fender, and I am not sure about the rest yet. We will see what else I find in the depths of the garage...

That's awesome dude! You must have a very impressive garage and storage space to be able to store all that stuff, and a very lenient wife/girlfriend. LOL.

It should be a strong engine. It will be fun because it will be kind of thrashed looking, but have solid chassis set up and blazing fast engine

I do have a fair bit of space, and plenty of stuff to go in it.
I have an awesome wife and a little girl who know my passion for motorcycles. Motorcycles have been part of my life for over 30 years, it is just a part if me.
