Best way to get power for my GPS?

Hi all!

I've just got the hardware to mount my TomTom Rider on my SV.

I would like to connect it to a circuit that is powerless when the ignition is switched off. What would be the best way to do this?

Use a Posi-tap to tap into a wire that is live when the ignition is on.
Here's a video showing how to find the switched-live wire.

Here's a link to Posi-tap. If you use this then you won't need a pin as shown in the video. Just screw the posi-tap onto a wire, connect the test light to the battery and posi-tap and turn the key to see if the light goes on.

The best way is to wire it to the battery directly with a fuse, and then use a relay to turn it on with the ignition.

If it's wired this way will the GPS turn off when the key is removed?

yes. That is how mine is wired on my Busa. I tap off the live to the rear light to control the relay.
