For the last few months i am getting a very bad high pitched vibration from the throttle so much so it makes my hand numb and on other times very little vibration. At the same time i have also noticed that the rev counter does not climb up to revs smoothly, it seems jerky, i still have full revs tho.
Please will you give me some ideas what the problem could be, i have checked the magnets and all is in order.
If the rotor magnets are in good nick (you do know what to look for...yes? do you have a picture?) then the next thing would be the clutch basket and BTL. My baskets lasted about 14,000 miles before starting to hammer badly and this number could be reduced quite a bit if it's beaten on aggressively. The BTL can wear and wobble which really vibrates badly and when the basket is getting loose it only contributes more.
Of course chain and sprocket condition and adjustment are critical in this area too....so please be sure everything is in good condition. The cush drive on the rear wheel tends to loosen which can add some vibration to an otherwise smooth ride.
Thank you for the fed back guys, i will start at the Throttle bodies, i know that my clutch is starting to get noisier as well so possibly it is related to clutch wear , i will let you know how i get on.
I’ve had similar issues with my rev counter and it was suggested to me that I might have the Green Connector issue which, like the magneto magnets, is not uncommon.
Here is some feed back on the problem with my sv.
i have just collected my sv from the dealer, he said that the throttle bodies were way out of sync, that was causing the vibrations as well as the erratic rev counter.I have only ridden the bike from the shop to the office, very short distance but the rev counter is now working fine, will take out on Sunday and let you know how thing go!
Just an observation after years of SV ownership: the throttle body linkages really don't wear much at all....so if they were in sync once they pretty much stay in sync for a LONG time. If they actually are out of sync (by vacuum comparison) then it's more likely that the vacuum production has changed rather than the throttle bodies. This means the valve adjustment is the most likely culprit when/if the vacuum production has changed and if it were me....I'd check to make sure the adjustment is spot on before touching the TB's.
Actually if you have a sensitive vacuum meter (TwinMax works well) it can tell you with a quick sync check if the valves have moved. TwinMax will show if one valve has moved .001" and I've found that the SV runs best when all valves are set with equal clearances....meaning you don't just accept anything within the adjustment range and call it good. Shoot for the middle and get all within that .001" and it'll run well. Mine were set to the tight side of clearances and for an experiment I set them all to the loose side....and the idle speed picked up over 300 rpm and it had more punch down low too. In over 40,000 miles of running the TB synch hasn't had to be touched more than 1/8'th turn to get it perfect...so if they're WAY out, either someone has mucked around with them or the valve adjustment has gone off. Ride safely!

Although, i have a set of Motion-Pro mercury vacuum gauges....and, due to poor light/eyesight/stupid i didn't notice that for some idiot reason
one tube had an air gap in it.....which of course, when you set it, that cylinder was obviously worse than it seemed....
The gauges seemed to get worse too......so they have gone south now.....gonna get some decent dial type ones.....
Moral of the story, being led astray a little at a time can end up with thngs not being as they should be....:bash:
