Hey Pete your SV is looking sweet. Whats your best 60' time? My best is 1.7xx with many 1.8xx. I think this is holding me back big time. I'm going to the strip for the first time with a sticky tire next week (shinko usoft). Any tips from a pro? I'm spinning on launch and the 1-2 shift with a michelin street tire. I was also thinking about trying a lower setting on compression damping on the rear shock. Hopefully by the time your in the 9s with a SV I'll be at 10.5.

Thanks Ryan

Hi Ryan - I read your post on your drag meet but it was overwhelmed with armchair advice so didn't want to start an argument.
Generally my 60 fts are low 1.6s and sometimes high 1.5s - so your losing a couple of tenths.
I reckon 25psi was way too high - try 15psi with a good 5 sec side to side burnout before a quick spin up on the middle - should get a nice sticky tyre (bear in mind you'l go up 2-3 psi on burnout so set it 12 psi cold & recheck immediately after your run)
Shinko Hookups & Michelin Power Cups are good & used by most UK street drag bikes.
I run a solid rear set up but speaking to Dave Smart (supercharged SV) he reckons a shock does improve 60 foot times & initial acceleration. As to setting it up I've got no idea.
I was impressed with your figures (especially top end speed on an unfaired bike) & think a harder launch will easily get a 10s next time. Best I did prior to NOS was 10.5 when I ran stock gearing & launched off the limiter which was a bit scary. Generally just get a feel for what seems right & develop a routine - I've got a bit of pinstripe tape on the tacho spanning the 300-400rpm ideal change point - binned the shift light.
All the best for the next one - cheers Pete

Thanks Pete I appreciate your advice. If I can get a 1.5sec 60' then Ill know I'm doing good. I just ordered a Hook-Up and will try your tire PSI and burn out routine. My bike definitely feels faster with the schmidt314 budget engine build. I'm not brave enough yet to launch off the rev limiter but I will work my way up as I get more comfortable.

Thanks
Ryan

edit- Also what was your trap speed for the non nitrous 10.5 run? Trying to see if I'm in the ballpark

I haven't got the timing slip anymore but it was around 125mph, though it was the high 1.5s 60ft that did it (1/8th would have been around 102mph)

Raced at Weston Zoyland last weekend and the SV ran 10.16s at 133mph - best ever run.
Sadly I wasn't riding it - I let a 17yr old whippersnapper loose on it and he managed that on just his fifth run.
I then got him a ride on a superstreet GSXR1000 & by his third run he clocked 9.55s at 146mph. Prior to this the quickest he'd been was 12.5s - so quite an amazing step up.
The Aprilia decided to eat a piston at 130mph when I'd upped the NOS to 60bhp - so game over for now.

The thing about speed is that you can't catch the quick riders to ask them how they got so fast!
