Hello there, long time no parlez. It's Mike Stride from Burry Port in West Wales here, all fixed up following my retinal detachment and fake lens fitment. I wonder, would you be so kind as to offer me some advice ? Today, I shortened the intake snorkel on my K3 naked by 60mm, and at the same time fitted a pair of tank riser cotton reels. I immediately noticed a vastly improved low end throttle response and general feel when pootling along slowly. In retrospect, I'm also wondering if the improved running is completely down to the cut snorkel and that perhaps, tank risers aren't really of much benefit on a naked model, unless for the possibility of slightly better cooling of the rear cylinder.

    Best regards to you,

    Mike.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm On it for fork springs and ZX10 shock. Isn't there a 9.5 aftermarket spring for the ZX10?

Do you have a recommendation for oil?

Also, do you have a view on rebuilding/re-valving SVK3 forks and ZX10 shock? Best done after getting spring rates right, fresh oil and some miles, no?

    Professor Longhair,
I'd like your prescription for my SVK3 suspension.
I'm 6'1", 280#. Anymore, as fast as comfortable is 85-90%. Once, I rode superbike. Before that, KR's on pavement and flat track. Since then, back roads/country touring, big thumpers. I tried Supermono on MZ's and knew I'd gotten old. And fat. They don't handicap. I wish they did - no fun to out-ride those who still out-run you.

The sport touring bug bit with the SVK3, stock with 22k loving miles. I've done my rider position fixes. I'm bulletproofing electricals and better horn, lights. Suspension is next.

I can't afford an Ohlins, maybe a KX10R shock. I want SVK forks that work, not a swap. Daugherty and Patton were helpful, but they sell what people ask for. I want the considered opinion of a serious SVK savvy person and that's you. As much detail as you care to share as a recommendation. Then maybe I'll know what to ask.
    Thanks in advance.

Rick: I got lucky on flea bay, found a 2006 v-strom master cylinder for $80. undamaged. Costs over $200 new with lever. Interchanges fine with SV-1000 unit. So, I'll be good to go as soon as it arrives.
    Thanks for your interest.

hey rick, i'm heading down to road atlanta tomorrow to meet jeff for the races and i was checking my motor mount bolts. the rear, lower bolt seems to be frozen. i put an impact on the locknut with a low setting and it seems to turn but it isn't coming loose. the bolt head on the other end isn't turning either. i didn't want to twist it off before my ride tommorrow. i guess i need to order a new one and go ahead with the impact. wadda you think?

    Hey L-Hair;

I noticed your Sig and thought you might enjoy this little poem.

    Olie
    Fellow Michigander

    Rough men

There's a character trait that's decided by fate
Comes (sadly) to many, far too faint, far too late.
They won't face the aggressor, stand up to his ire
They have not the will to fight his fire with fire.
So they bend over backwards to see all sides as fair,
Till they're faced with dragon breath fire in their hair.
Like our brethren in France, who'd know better than we,
Yet seem never to learn, seem doomed never to see.

Yes, it seems there are some who're determined by fate,
To possess not the courage to step up to the plate,
Who shrink from all threat because nothing's worth war.
But how can they know lest they've been there before?
Thank God some have courage, the will, yes, the grace,
To stand for the shirkers, stand strong in their place.
Thank God we have stalwarts who'll stand for us all,
Who will rise to the challenge at their nation's call.

The faint-hearted, who fear, whose reaction is flight,
Have no comprehension of those who will fight.
To hide their own trepidation they attempt to demean
The rough men, who defend them, as barbaric, obscene.
Yet these rough men stand ready, hard weapons to hand,
To put placaters behind them, draw a line in the sand,
To preserve for the peaceniks what they won't defend,
So their own unearned freedom won't perish, won't end.

To appeasers, rough men are coarse government tools.
To rough men, appeasers are dumb delusional fools.
