Just bought an '03 SV1K and bringing it home tomorrow. I've been riding for about 40 years on a bunch of different bikes although I seem to have a thing for twins. First couple were Norton Commandos and then an RD400. I've owned a few Buells, a Ducati 900ss and an Honda SP2, this will be my first Suzuki. Looking forward to putting a bunch of miles on the beast and leaning towards setting it up as a sport touring bike with Givi hard bags but we'll see. I need a silver front fender if anyone has a spare.

Excellent news....

I assume you have been lurking for some time and have read the must do's on these beasties ?

Main thing, is check the rotor, and maybe its been sorted, but if not, get her fixed as a matter of priority.

Brief lurker, like about a week. This all started because I got my wife an SV650 to replace her NT650 Hawk as she was starting to feel a need for more horsepower. i rode it a couple times and liked it a bunch. I was leaning towards a BMW R1150RS or Ducati ST3 but was having a hard time finding anything decent in my price range. Found a big SV on CL for 2K and snatched it up. The cute part is they are both '03s and silver.

Crashm - welcome.

I would second ML’s suggestion and would add the “dreaded green connector” to your “to check” list. It is an easy fix (if not already addressed), but it has the potential to leave you stranded.

...setting it up as a sport touring bike with Givi hard bags...
It's really a do it all bike. Been touring mine for at least one week the last three years during summer vacation. My GF got a SV650S. The Givi hard cases might not look too sporty but the ease of use and capacity is really nice. She normally ride with them and I made a rack myself for a pair of Ogio saddlebags.
