SV- VS -R1

Had my first proper run on my SV today , I traded my R1 in for it which i had for 5 years [2001 model].
I expected it to be less extreme , but if anything i seem to go just as quick everywhere on the SV as i did before .
The midrange punch makes short work of any cars that get in the way, no going down the box to overtake , gearbox is much sweeter to use as well .

Im impressed with the handling as well , holds a nice smooth line through the corners , i seem to have a lot more confidence in it , always worried about a highside on the R1 , i had one once and its not nice !

A great road bike then , and much better than its been given credit for by the Biking press !..but what did they ever know anyway ?

welcome to site Les. It's great to have your expertise on here with us.
there's a bit of 'my *ah-hem* bike is better than yours.' :msn-wink:
it's awesome to hear from people who have actually ridden the things!

glad you're enjoying the SV, surely you'll grow to love it more and more each day. this site is full of great advice, good topics and some real @$$holes.
kidding great bunch of guys here...

except old bald sob. he's a real turd-burger. :nutkick:
strange isn't it about how many people find the sv is quicker than they think.Mcn has the bike around 140 and others at 145 yet you speak to people here and 150+ is spoken off.

It's just the v-twin thing which keeps sales down.Suzuki did a massive advertising campaign on eurosport and other channels yet you can pick up sv bargains all over the place. My friend has a gsxr 600 and just could not believe how much heavier the sv was.But i think its a great bike which grabs peoples attention when you boom past them.
I will have to agree with what you have said I too came to the SV from a R1 and I instantly went faster on the SV especialy in the corners I loved the warp factor speed of the R1 140+ but you dont get to see that as much as you can use the mid range of the SV :first:
Welcome to the site SVLES! Sounds like you are an SV convert like the rest of us here. Great to have you aboard. In a sea of repli-racers, the SV is certainly a rare gem of a find. The torque is a drug for our bodies and its engine/exhaust noise is a drug for our ears.:headbang:

Oh, and be careful who you talk to round here because there are some trolls about (the other kind of troll) that are just aching to bag a virgin. Especially lootyman. His screen name was formed from the words "love" "booty" and "man". Never turn your back on him 'cause he will :buggerd: you good!

:nutkick: :killingme
welcome, les. isn't it amazing what a little torque will do for you. i've found that depending on how technical(twisty) the road is the sv is a match for many liter bikes encountered riding on the streets. once we march above 120 then they will pull away but it seems that i can always reel them back in through the corners. enjoy...
The SV provides useable power and that is confidence building.
Welcome to the site Les, glad to hear that coming from an R1 you are impressed with the SV. I came from an I4 too and am just waiting for the weather to cheer up so I can really get to try out the beast.
Welcome Les, That's cool that you're diggin the SV. I love mine. But then again, I came from riding a 660cc single ( the SV's 'bout double the hp). Enjoy the toy! :ryan:

--edit-- hello Scooter Boy! (what the Hell? I've gotta get posting so I can geta real title, jeez)
Oh yeah the SV Grunt will win 'em over every time.

I came froman FZR1000 and was, at first, very dissapointed, but once a person gets used to the power deilvery and the SOUND it would be tough to go back.

This is my 3rd season on my SV and I really do love it more each year!!:punk:
welcome!!!! i too came from an 01R1 to my sv and nearly 13000miles later, i never look back! My sv is set up well with plenty of tweaks and i ride it much harder through the twisty stuff than my R1 which i too feared highsiding. the v-twin power delivery is plentiful yet forgiving and i can put in 300+ mile days on it, something i could only dream about on my R1.....great road bike!!!!
Thanks for the replies guys, Ive just been out for another run today , only this time with a set of race cans on.

Well it had to be done ! ..just too quiet as standard , now thats more like it .
interesting statements guys! I come from a bandit1200s and was also bit disappointed at 1st.. :disapint: The bandit has more torque in any rev range and pulls the fillings out of your teeth. Can open the throttle from just about 1.5k in top gear without shuddering etc.. but :pistols: the SV makes me enjoy my ride.. I am actually falling in love with the SV yes, LOVE! where even though I dig my bandit I dont love it :D Now dont get me wrong.. when it come to personality there are few that has personality like a B12 but I guess the SV's personality suits me just a bit better :punk:

Welcome to SV world
So good to hear how much you’re enjoying it
And all the others who’ve responded similarly
Bought mine new as a return to motorcycling ride and have never regretted it

Holy thread resurection Batman! It's over 17 years since those posts were made.

In fact to put that into context my bike was less than 1 year old at the time.
