Hi all!

I have an interesting possibility at my fingertips. My buddy has an 07 SV1000 that was stolen and recovered. He has the title, on non-op in Cali so no back fees. We have basically stripped it down to the frame to part it out to pay for the impound fees (he didn't have comprehensive- OOF). Near me there are cheap 04 and 05 SV1000s, one complete sans fairing, the other missing the fairing, tank, ecu, subframe, etc.

I know that moving the early 1000 motors into the later frames with electronics is not entirely plug and play, but what if I just took the guts of the nearly complete 04 and transplanted them into my friend's 07 frame? Are the mounting points all the same? Is it doable? My initial thought is yes, but I figured I'd ask the experts before proceeding. Anything to watch out for?

Thanks in advance :)

You first post, welcome....

The 04 "might" have a cam postion sensor in the rear rocker cover, to make best use, but, i would assume you could swap over without hooking that up.
Beyond that, it "should " be ok to go.... but wait till you get more opinions....

Yeah, that's a little odd- I've been here for years soaking up info and I know I've posted a few times, but maybe that was on an old account?

In any case, I wouldn't be using any electronics from the 07 AT ALL- just taking literally everything, from the front wheel to the rear wheel, and everything in between, out of the 04 frame and stuffing it into the 07 frame.

So it sounds like the motor will mount just fine, and that's my main concern. I know it's unlikely that anything else will mount differently between the two years (it was only 03 that had a different subframe, right?), but again, I want to be sure!

Yes to my knowledge it should all mount just fine in the different frame. So if you have complete engine with throttle bodies (not sure about the bottom half of airbox, maybe just different rubber grommets?), wiring harness, and ECU you should be fine.

The K3 have different subframe, angle is different and made of steel. The different angle does result in the two triangular filler pieces between tank and rear plastics being shaped a little different. Also tank is cut a little differently at the hinge if I remember correctly, but might not be an issue. Lastly the fuel pump assembly is different - there are two fuel level sensors on K5, where K3/K4 only have one.

But still lets wait for a veteran to confirm.

Well thats your answer, all will be well. To the best of my knowledge, nothing changed ergonomically so all should go..

Awesome. That was what I was expecting, but I didn't want to pull the trigger in case Suzuki changed some little thing that would cause all sorts of pain and suffering in the swap process. Thank you!!
There will be no pain and suffering. I have swapped all kinds of years, engines frames, harnesses with success.

If you are swapping over with the complete harness and fuel pump it is easy.

Rear brake light switch changed a tiny bit with plugs and wire length, but that is a simple fix.

Seat, small frame covers, and tank can be a bit tricky, but if you match things up you will be fine. 03S model bikes used a unique tank, subframe, seat, and frame covers. 03S tanks can work on others with a bit of a massaging to the rear flange.
