They'd cross the line pretty much beside each other...

 

These are the performance figures for the SV1000S from the June 2003 Motorcycle Consumer News:

Measured Top Speed: 145.5 mph
0-1/4 mile: 10.59 sec. @ 130.81 mph
0-60 mph: 3.08 sec.
0-100 mph: 6.56 sec.
60-0 mph: 112.7'
Power to weight ratio: 1:4.65
speed @ 65mph indicated: 59.4

Sorry I don't have numbers for the Gixer. Anyone out there that does?

 

GSXR-600 quarter mile per Motorcyclist: 11.08@123.54

Sport Rider has the Q time at 10.74@127 and a top speed of 157

Roll on's the SV would spank the GSXR...which to me is more important.

That is assuming the riders are of equal experience. Want to ride faster? Go to the track and learn the limits of the bike in a controlled environment.

Couldn't agree with you more on that one. The street is not the place to be learning the limits of your bike.

 

Yes, we are well aware of where to ride our bikes...but if I didn't want to push it that little bit further each time I go out, I would have bought myself a new car! Not everyone can get out on a track, whether this is down to free time available or because of other outside commitments or even because there isn't a track nearby! Besides I wouldn't want to push my bike to the limit on a track either...it is my mode of transport; and to be without it would seriiously screw me up (hence why I push myself, and the bike whilst going to and from work!)

Had a chance to face off with a GSXR-600 on track day Sept.1st. The pilot really liked my tail lights , and over the weekend I sprinted with a GSXR-600, R-6, 750 Katana, 1200 Bandit and a BMW of some type (not sure of numbers). In a flat out ROMP from freeway speeds of about 75mph, only the Bandit got away from me. Neither of the 600's had a chance. The guy on the Katana just wasn't with it....he got spanked by both 600's.

It really comes down to the rider. How low or how fast are you willing to go? You can bet the SV will do whatever you ask it to.

 

Thanks for the info. I figured if the riders were the same the SV would hold it's own with almost any 600's and most 750's. My friend on his SV650N eats all of his 600 buddys in the cayons here in Utah. GSXR, R6 CBR6RR. He is the best rider in the twistys of any of the 600's. Still he takes them all the way to 80 in a straight drag race from a stop. V-Twins RULE. I know some of you think I am crazy I have seen it myself plenty of times.

 

Well i can tell you first hand. yesterday i went to the drags here in central Ohio, Friendship park.
It was a very nice day,and after they dried off the track, i got in 9 runs by myself on the 1/8 mile course, then another bike showed up..an 01 600 gixxer. We got to run 9 times together, he beating me all but the one time i got a good shot off the line. He was experienced at the drags and his bike was set up for such with it being lowered front and rear... looked funny but he was fast.
The best run i had was 7.214 @ 98.26 mph with a reaction time of 0.677 , i was having problems getting 60 ft. times as the front wheel was often off the ground at that point
The dude on the gixxer had his best run of 7.155 @ 98.27 mph with a reaction time of 0.581 [this is the time it takes you to get out of the hole after the final and green light goes on] anything in the 5`s is good....if you get in the 4`s you get a red light. SCRATCH..... and his 60 foot time was 1.788.
It was very fun and other tracks near here will let you run with the cars... many of which do the 1/8 in the 6`s and over 110 mph...SO if you are finding yourself goin too fast on the roads... take it to the track.. get your ya ya`s out and it will help you to be more civil when back amoungst the common cager. :niceone:

I hope to be going to the strip soon, we call them "run wot ya brung" days

you can run pretty much anything you like.

i took my triumph tt there and got 11.7 @ 121mph (1/4 mile not 1/8 !!)

will be interesting to see what the sv can do.

heh...I wouldn't take that bet.

 

They do race V-Twin liter bikes against 750cc I4's...........havent watched races in awhile but the Hayden's and Foggy were kickin as on 1000cc V-Twins.

Now comparing the SV to a Duc is kinda like comparing caviar to sardines......but ya know.

The SV is very competent performance-wise, handles well...plus you don't look like all of the Ricky Roadracer clones out there on their GSXFZCB "whutevahs". Just don't buy it expecting to ride cross country. :doctor:

 

keep up with a gixxer 750 on the racetrack, in a word, NO.

...but I am not done with the mods yet...

I wish the V-twin you and I buy was even close to the caliber of the bikes you mentioned.... :wub:

And just about anyone knowing anything at all about either of these bikes knows enough and is most likely to decide which is the bike for them. No one buys a 600 class street legal superbike specifically for the dragstrip, not what it was intended for. And if I wanted to hang with, or smoke a 600, I probably wouldn't have gotten rid of the Blade. The SV is just what I want it to be. Is it a superbike killer? No. Is it the king of the street? No. Is it a blast, and very competent in the hands of a competent rider? Absolutely, unconditionally, without a doubt, YES. :niceone:

Figure out what you want a bike to do and buy the one that fits the bill. I've got mine and it's exactly what I expected. It's a keeper.
