Does anyone know if the stock Suzuki SV1000 top triple tree (clamp) will fit the faired SV1000S? I want to raise the bars and prefer factory equipment.

It is counter intuitive for most people, more offset = less trail. Many people get this wrong.

Covered in gory detail in this thread where several of us had it out mathematically. http://www.sv-portal.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36335&highlight=rake

Read the complete thread, so you can see the progression.

More offset and smaller trail will make a bike turn quicker, and too little trail (too much offset) will compromise straight line stability and even cause the front to tuck. You need a good mix of rake and trail.

Gidday Vernon,

I fitted the ABM top triple clamp and superbike bars to my SV1000S, and it now has one of the best riding positions that I've experienced.

Don't get too hung up on using Suzuki parts only, there are excellent quality aftermarket high bar conversions avalable that will also add to the value of your bike.

One genuine part that I did use was the SV1000N throttle unit, switch block and cables, as the routing is so much better that jury rigging the SVS unit IMHO.

You will need to extend the wiring if you fit higher bars, or replace all switch blocks with SVN units to get the length needed, but it's not a big job.

Allow a Saturday morning to do the work, then go out and enjoy the new riding position - and believe me, you will.

I fit a stock N upper to my S. It's been on there about 15k miles now with no issues. My riding is commuting, no hard riding. I noticed no difference in the handling between the two.

But the front brake lines are at the upper limit of usability and it would be best if you put longer ones on. Same with throttle cables. And I don't THINK the S throttle will accept the N cables.

So it can be done but if you want to do it right you need to change both upper and lower triple, the brake lines, the throttle cables, and probably the right grip that holds the throttle cable ends too.
