agreed, they make good money on tires. my friends own the local bike shop here, and that is where they make most money. they only make a few hundred dollars off the bikes, so they make up for it everywhere else.

 

Pity you are not "dahn Sarf" - there is a company called Micheldever tyres, who do some pretty good deals. There is another one in Southampton too, but can't remember what they are called, and it wouldn't do you any good anyway, unless we were still there, and you could have dossed at ours to get the deal - sorry, mate!

heh... I pay about 120 bucks for a rear Diablo (shipped, of course), and my local shop charges 20 bucks to change & balance a tire... so long as it is off the bike. Fronts are less about 100 shipped too..... that's a total of 73 of yer British Bucks for a rear + mounting.

Seems with the exchange rate being what it is, you could damn near get them cheaper having them shipped from here An honest dealer here charges .4 hours of labor for mount & balance of a rear tire @ $54.00/hour shop rate. How bad are those guys over there?

Not too bad eventually, robbin bastards , I had a pair of diablos last year fitted to bike for £180 and I've just had the rear done on its own for £100 :niceone:

Well said that man!!!! For goodness sake check either www.bfmmotorcycles.co.uk or ring Bike Tyres Leeds on 0113 2607383. Both do good, cheap deals on tyres and are usually within £5 of each other. I use Bike tyres leeds as they've always been sound with me - I just bought a pair of 010s last week, had the front fitted and brought the rear home. They'll fit the rear for me FOC when my current one is finished. Total price was £157 which I thought was alright considering the fitting. From memory I think Diablos are £150 a pair if you quote the MCN or Squires Cafe discount...

 

Decent deals for tyres online

I've bought my last two sets of tyres from here . They're based in Northern Ireland but the shipping is free to the UK and to the south of Ireland as well. I shopped around on the web and over the phone and they were the best price going....

I picked up a pair of PIRELLI MTR21/22 DRAGON EVO's for only £145. Plenty of other brandsa available too. If you've got someone to fit them for you (costs me 20 euro!) if works out at a great deal. :niceone:

Great service and excellent bike facilities - not many fitters have their own bike tyre fitting bays.

 

just done a 550 mile weekend, the bike now has 2300 miles on it, and the rear pilot sport is totally done (can see canvas!!) bearing in mind that i was running it in for almost 1000 of these miles, how gentle is every one else with the throttle???

Can also recommend Micheldever. My old bikes had BT-010s at £180 per pair. they are about 30 minute rideaway but worth it.

When I had the BMW the main dealer quoted me £300 for the pair.

I got 4300 miles on mine....... very squared off due to a lot of motorway use but at least 500 mile left in it in the middle and 2000 left on the edges.

To make your tyre last ease off an the thrashing it mode in first / second and focus on smooth progressive riding.......... unless you like buying tyres every 2 months that is?

If your on non standard gearing you will trash the tyres quicker as lower gearing will give more thrust.

Just got a pair of Diablo's But Mine's BIGGER than yours :bleh: 120/70/zr17 & 190/50/zx17 for £150.00 cost £10 more to have 'em fitted, I didn't as wheels are in for Powder coating and they'll fit my new tyres and junk the Conti's

I couldn't convince anyone to fit a 190/50 to mine... it's not standard fitment nor on the "alternatives" list (no sh!t Sherlock) so they wouldn't do it.

Takes about 300 USD to get what you need to mount them yourself. With the discount of buying the tires on line and avoiding the mounting charges at the local shop it doesn't take long for the tools to pay for themselves. Andyw has a handy "how to" in the FAQ section of his website .
