Due to various reasons the oil cooler on my SV1000 is in the wrong place and there isn't enough room to fit it anywhere sensible

Now I have seen that the RF900 has a Oil Intercooler sandwiched between the oil filter and then block with a water connection. Now this seems like it could be a solution, now this sort of Oil Intercooler can cause a pressure drop on the oil supply but I would be interested if anyone has done this before and if anyone knows if it is easily do-able.

The reason for the oil cooler move, the Turbo is in the way!!!!

TLR used the same thing and I have toyed around with it in the past and actually have one mounted on a mock up motor right now. Space constraints have been my issue fitting on TLR upper and lower radiators for higher water capacity and the water plumbing to the cooler and header pipes and such.

Your bike is unique though, so I have no idea what would fit in. Just note you have to figure out how to get water in and out. I have a TLR water pump cover on to allow easier hook up of cooler and hoses.

Hmmmmm didn't know about the TLR, that'll help.
There is part of the water circuit on the SV that is not affected by the thermostat like most bikes but is not as easy to get to as the TLR appears and the SV650
I am looking at changing the mount for the oil cooler as currently it is sat infront of the radiator which is not brilliant for air flow for either the radiator or the oil cooler, and the water intercooler is a possibility
If I get rid of the "Air" Oil Cooler I assume I just blank the Oil Lines off.

Make me an offer an it could be yours, though you will have to fetch it in person, it would definitely be an interesting ride home, one to tell your grand kids about!!!!

 

On the TLR and the newer 650s the oil cooler is fed straight from the waterpump itself, it's like adding a third circuit paralell to the circuit feeding the cylinders. You could just put in a TLR water pump cover and feed the oil cooler with it, the problem now will be that the water pump inlet will be pointing the wrong direction.

That looks a neat setup just the sort of thing I was thinking of, however the turbo sits where the plumbing goes so I might need to get creative

 

I was thinking about this and wondered if a tee piece like yours on the radiator inlet and outlet would work? Obviously there would be no or minimal flow when the thermostat is closed but that wouldn't be the end of the world
